Mediaset: Milan have €10m alternative in mind as Botman pursuit becomes tough

AC Milan may miss out on Sven Botman but their strategy for the defensive department will not change, according to a report.

SportMediaset (via MilanNews) report that Milan have been pursuing Botman as their number one target for some time, but in recent days the track seems to have cooled down a bit because of the competition from Newcastle United and the high asking price of Lille.

The Rossoneri have not yet given up but the difficulties have forced them to probe other ideas, though what must be mentioned is that the management will still sign a new player and it will be a similarly young profile.

The name of Malick Thiaw of Schalke 04 has re-emerged against as a potential alternative to the Dutchman and he has already been linked given Milan pursued him in January.

It would be an operation worth around €10m, with the Germany U21 international currently preparing for a season back in the Bundesliga after Schalke’s promotion.
