AC Milan have been mentioned as a potential destination for Noah Atubolu, amid the doubts about Mike Maignan’s future.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Maignan’s future at Milan is uncertain, after the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri and the failure to secure Champions League football. His agent is gathering offers in the event that he decides to try a new challenge.

A replacement from Germany

According to Mundo Deportivo (via Calciomercato.com), Real Sociedad director Pellegrino Matarazzo is evaluating four German goalkeepers with their start Alex Remiro in talks with Napoli.

In addition to Atubolu, the list also includes Finn Dahmen (Augsburg), Bernd Leno (Fulham), and Steven Benda, who recently returned to Fulham from his loan at Feyenoord. The management are also considering Napoli’s Alex Meret, considering a swap deal with Remiro.

Atubolu still has one year left on his contract with Freiburg, which expires in 2027, but his departure this summer is likely. The club have already acquired Mio Backhaus from Werder Bremen for €12m as his replacement.

Atubolu has refused to extend his contract, so the Europa League finalists must sell him now to secure a suitable fee. It’s still unclear where the 24-year-old will play. Sport Bild recently reported a complicated situation: neither the goalkeeper nor the club have received any concrete offers.

According to Mundo Deportivo meanwhile, Real Sociedad are now interested and the goalkeeper is also attracting the eyes of some other top clubs, including Milan, Inter and Atlético Madrid. It was reported last year that the Rossoneri were scouting him.

Considered Germany’s future number one, Atubolu is still not guaranteed any game time at the 2026 World Cup. Last October, he was called up by Julian Nagelsmann for the qualifiers, but the former U21 player is still waiting for his debut for the senior national team.

  1. This kid or that Risser kid from Lens should be purchased if he is sold. I’d sell him for 50M, not less.

  2. Italy have long history with great GK. Milan no need splash his money, they already have torriani from primavera…

    1. Exactly. Wasting money in areas that aren’t a problem is why the club have blown millions in recent years.

    2. Of course, why buy anyone? We have Odogu for central defence, we have some guys in Futuro etc. Why didn’t anyone remember this?

  3. Just give Torriani a real chance. He already proved his worth for the first team, in the Champions League no less! Either out him on goal now or on loan 👌
