Official: AC Milan announce the departure of Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City

The news no one wanted, but expected, has arrived this morning, as AC Milan announced the departure of Tijjani Reijnders.

Once Manchester City were involved, many feared that it would only be a matter of time before the midfielder departed. This is despite messages of reassurance to the fans from members of the management, something that is further damaging an already vulnerable group.

Today, his exit has been confirmed by the club on their website, with the statement reading as follows.

“AC Milan announces that it has permanently transferred the registration rights of footballer Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City FC.

“The Club thanks Tijjani for his commitment and professionalism and wishes him every success in his personal and professional life.”

The Rebuild

For many, Reijnders was the player for Milan to rebuild around, and this will no longer be the case. However, there are certainly parallels to be drawn between his exit and that of Sandro Tonali a few years ago.

Better needs to be done with the funds, of course. Nevertheless, Tonali brought Reijnders, and now, there can be some hope – and maybe even expectation – that this move brings the next in line.

With that said, there is a very big hole to fill in the midfield without the Dutchman, both in a literal and technical sense, the Rossoneri must act quickly, indeed.

  1. There is no project and there is no ambition at Milan. It’s just about money, how very sad

Tiji was an outstanding player with a great attitude. I wish him every success

    1. How are they only interested in money when the money from transfers is put back into the club and reinvested in more players? Stop being a Ted.

      1. Continuing being a complete m*ron. Kudos.

It is about money when they sell for capital gains. It’s called ROI and it goes into the books. For your own good, stay out of discussions that are beyond your understanding and too much of a challenge for your intellect. Stop making a mockery out of yourself. Oh, and always remember – helmet on.

      1. Never. I can’t help that some people don’t understand football or are just Gerry boys.

For me, Tiji was the most exciting midfielder we have had since Kaka

  2. I know you want to believe in Milan strategy and so on. But selling yous BEST players is not a good sign. You just can`t put your pink glasses on in this case. And it is not even a super high amount of money. Come on. DECLAN RICE was bought for 100 mil. COME ON

  3. I hope he knows what he’s doing as he was a star at Milan – nothing’s 100% guaranteed in football, like adaptation to the premier league or not winding up on the bench…

    1. I don’t know that being the best in a bad bunch is better than being a rotational piece in a better squad? Can’t blame him for leaving. He’ll get to compete for trophies on every front. He’s what 26? 27? 5-6 productive years left. Good Luck to him.

    2. If the Americans continue to sink Milan then we all lose until they go, stop buying American Milan merchandise and don’t go to the stadium, empty stadium and no merchandise.

  4. Thank you Tijjani! 😢
I appreciate your efforts as a die-hard Milan fan. I hope you will succeed in your Team!
    Thank you for everything! 🙏

  5. Milan still works under FFP settlement with UEFA. If they don´t post good enough financial results, they get banned from European football again. The ROI does not go into the owners pockets. Milan (like many other clubs) is not a profitable business so uberhulk isn´t wrong. Even if they would register a profit, it´s not money the owners can just take out of the club and put in their own pockets. Don´t forget to put you own helmet on.

    1. You two should both sign for special classes. They are a fund and they operate with assets and to them it’s the valuation of the asset and its profitability. Moreover, Milan are allowed to post 60 million of loss under this same FFP agreement.

      1. Ted, there is a right to add an additonal 10 million euros on good behavior from ownership if they chose to inject when we are at the 60 million threshold in losses, which we are currently eligible to do. It is in fact 70 million euros. Add 20 Musah sale, plus 34 million euros from this sale, we have 124 million euros to spend. At 3m5 million in wages a year, it was ludicrous to sell him now because no incoming player of his performance level will accept less than 8 to 9 million euros a year. It is terrible business.

    2. We are out the woods for FFP. We can declare losses of up to 70 million euros over the next 3 years. We had no need to sell him, fail to renew Mike and Theo on their demanded wages.

We could afford to do all of that comfortably while respecting FFP parameters.

  6. Anything that has to do with the Americans, consider that thing worthless and directionless. The American owners finally succeeded in destroying Milan by turning it into a business hub rather than a football club. Every year Milan has to get rid of their best players due to the owners recklessness.

  7. Best of luck buddy. I guess he’s also gambling and forced the move lol 😂 jk.
Anyways, not the biggest fan of his but he does have quality on the ball esp with his passing range. His defending is sub par but he won’t need to do that much in Pep’s system and Rodri and others would be doing the heavy lifting there. Obviously I’d prefer him to stay as I value continuity and his skillset. He did have a fantastic year given the turmoil in the team and the number of changes plus overall drama. I also get why he would leave this failed project in search of one which has realistic chances of silverware. I’ve said well before this he’d fine perfectly in possession/passing based systems …which City has (we have zero defined system btw…and Allegri is a continuation of not having a system much less a pass focused one).
