One of the areas that AC Milan are likely to intervene this summer is in the centre-back department, with two links emerging.

As we explained in our recent tactical analysis, Ruben Amorim places quite a lot of emphasis on having quality central defenders for a couple of different reasons, in addition to just being able to keep goals out.

The defenders are expected to protest large spaces due to the high line, making recovery pace and athleticism essential qualities. In possession, Amorim places significant emphasis on ball-playing ability. In other words, looking at current options, some help may be needed.

According to journalist Luca Cohen (via MilanTHub), Milan are interested in Antonio Silva and had an initial talk with agent Jorge Mendes. The conversations with Mendes have been frequent given he looks after Goncalo Ramos, who should soon be announced as a club-record signing.

Amorim’s dream target would be Goncalo Inacio, who is represented by the same agency as the head coach, but the costs are high. Both are players to keep an eye on, Cohen states.

The preference for Inacio is an obvious one given that Amorim knows him well from his time at Sporting CP. There, the 24-year-old entered the first-team fold under the manager and even became a regular Portugal international.

  1. Silva has 1 year left on his contract. 22 years old, 20 caps for Portugal. He would be good signing if we can get him on the cheap. If Benfica doesn’t want to sell in January his free to negotiate. Kamada is another solid free transfer worth considering.

    1. Juventus, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United and Milan are interested in him.

      Nobody is getting him “on the cheap” or Milan is signing him on a free next year. It will be 40-50M to get him this summer.

    1. I haven’t heard anyone outside of Serie A being interested in him. That is where he is, at Lazio. I doubt there will be a top club after him.

    1. No, we’ll only bring 2 or 3- a Portuguese center-back and a Portuguese striker, maybe even a Portuguese AMC/winger but that is all, nothing excessive;
      and it’s not like Portugal is some weak country with
      poor or average players, just look at their World cup squad and their roster, we could do a lot worse than that, you shouldn’t be bothered by 2/3 signings…

    2. No, because we’re getting in bed with Mendes and before you know it he has a tight hold on the club. The man is a virus.

  2. Be it Silva or Inacio, give the coach the players
    he (has) asked for, bring him Hjulmand as well, create a backbone (DC – MC – SC) but just don’t
    let djubrahimovic and the other guys interfere.
