AC Milan could be without Alexis Saelemaekers for a short period as he suffered an injury while playing for Belgium.

As was confirmed by the Belgian national team’s official account, Saelemakers has suffered an injury and will be unavailable for the match against Wales next week. As a result, he will leave the camp and return to Milanello.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that it is a strained muscle that he has suffered. If confirmed by the scans back in Italy, the Belgian would therefore risk missing the Serie A match against Fiorentina and possibly the one against Pisa as well.

Milan resume their Serie A campaign on October 19th with the home match against Fiorentina at San Siro. Then, on October 24th, the Rossoneri will play at home again in the league, against Pisa this time. On October 28th a match against Atalanta follows, at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo.

That starts quite a daunting run of fixtures, with matches against Roma, Inter and Lazio following in the next four rounds. The hope for Massimiliano Allegri will be that it is a minor issue and that he can have the wing-back in the team for a crucial run of games.

  1. How come they have these International games during the season? It is ridiculous, if the FAs don’t pay their wages and compensate clubs when players are injured on duty then they shouldn’t be getting those players. They are not their employer. These should only happen in the offseason. American Football, Hockey, basketball, baseball don’t have competitive matches during the season every year…

    1. What? Are you mentally impaired? Nobody is “getting” the players, it is an honor to play for your country. Modric would be the first to leave Milan if he wasn’t allowed to play for Croatia. From where are you to be such a twat? USA?

      1. Please don’t associate the US to those silly comments. It’s an honor to play for your Country. That is what makes Soccer such a special Sport.. It’s truly International.
We always knew the bench would have to play well if there was any hope hope of a League Championship.

      1. The World Cup and Euros come first, the Champions League is secondary. International football is the biggest stage, Champions of the World and of your Continent trumps any club competition.

  2. So, Bartesaghi and Athekame as the starting wingbacks in the next game for title chasing AC Milan. They may be promising, but it reveals how shallow we are in defense.

    1. Bartesaghi did overall well against Juve, at least in the second half, so I’m not especially worried about him. But it’s the other flank that is currently a complete mistery.

      1. I’m still not 100% worried, and playing against fiorentina is a better start than throwing athekame down the deep end against a very strong napoli or Juve. My only worry now is the depth of the wing backs with both pervis and alexis injured. But again our depth is what it is. We could afford to have 3 players for each position with no champions league so last season is coming to bite us in the bottom.
