However, Fikayo Tomori and Zachary Athekame were the two options to follow him; with respect, a quite substantial drop.
So, talk of signing cover never really faded, and now the idea is prominent once again.

After the Lecce win, Saelemaekers was seen with an ice pack around his thigh, and Massimiliano Allegri has since said that he needs the Belgian to recover in time to face his former club. So, that leaves the Rossoneri without one of their biggest assets.
So, as Calciomercacto.com writes, this could push the management to look to the mercato. Brooke Norton-Cuffy has been a name of interest for a while now, and if an opportunity arises, it could be taken, given how much Saelemaekers is currently having to play.
Nothing will be done until the end of the mercato it seems, to fully understand the feasibility of a move for a wing-back, as well as the situation of Saelemaekers. If that fails, it seems a move for the Genoa man could be made in June.
Meaning Allegri will look to Athekame as the main option for the Belgian’s replacement.

IMO, this appears to be poor strategic planning on the part of the medical team. We seem to wait until there is a problem before trying to manage game time with these players.

Why are we still playing this formation? In games we need the 433 or 4231 to bail us out. We should start with as we have a midfield now that brings balance to the whole team so we start on the front foot. Leao and Pulisic are best on the wings and oh my word what about the quality that came Fullkrug. We should utilize these three from the start and play Rabiot, Modric/Jashari & Ricci/Fofana with a back four of Bartesaghi, Pavlovic, Gabbia/Tomori, Athekame and Mike between the sticks.
Lets trust Athekame
Como bought some of their starters for 3-6M€. And they performed better than Milan players (excluding Rabiot). Maybe time to finally dump Moncada too?
