TMW: Milan targeting Asensio and Berardi – a comprehensive comparison of their numbers

AC Milan have been linked with two players to strengthen the attacking department, namely Marco Asensio of Real Madrid and Domenico Berardi of Sassuolo.

TMW have pitted the two against each other, starting by looking at the honours each has won. Berardi won Serie B with Sassuolo in 2013 and the European Championships with Italy, but Asensio has two Champions League victories and even scored in the final against Juve. He also has two LaLiga titles, three Spanish super cups and two UEFA Club World Cups.

Asensio’s best season is the current one with 10 goals in 35 appearances overall, while Berardi has 14 goals in 29 appearances and also has 11 assists, meaning he became the first player in the ‘top five’ European leagues to do the ‘double double’.

Looking at a per game average, the Italian has more assists (0.43 per game) and passes that lead to a shot (1.6 per game) compared to the Iberian (0.06 and 0.81 per game). Berardi tries and completes more dribbles (3.84 and 2.17 on average per game against 2.44 and 1.44), but is also more useful in defensive terms as he recovers more balls (2.56 per game against 1.88) and has almost double the interceptions (3.98 against 1.94).

On a physical level, Berardi wins many more aerial duels (0.96 against 0.13 per game), defensive duels (1.92 against 1.25) and attacking duels (4.7 against 2.13) and has almost double the interceptions (3.98 against 1.94 on average per match).
