GdS: Milan vs. Atalanta is Giroud vs. Hojlund – two very different strikers face off

By Oliver Fisher -

Tonight’s game between AC Milan and Atalanta will see an interesting sub-plot take place in the battle of the two very different centre-forwards on display.

As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it) reports, one of the most fascinating duels that will take place tonight at San Siro is the one between the two centre-forwards in Olivier Giroud and Rasmus Hojlund.

Both will lead the line for their respective sides and will do so at the opposite end of the age spectrum, given that the Frenchman is now 36 years of age and his opposite numbers is just 20, meaning there is a 16-year gap.

There is just one goal between them in the Serie A scoring charts as Giroud has netted seven times this season while the Dane has six goals to his name. There are other differences too: one has dark hair and the other is blonde, one has a World Cup win on his honours list and the other has just two international caps.

Then there is the obvious differences in their playing style too, given Giroud is more of a hold-up player and looks to be a finisher inside the box, while Hojlund on the other hand can split defences on his own with his lightning pace and athleticism.
