GdS: Milan and Atalanta the two pressing masters in Serie A – the numbers compared

AC Milan will face off against Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium tonight looking to win their fourth straight game against Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, with whom they share many similar principles.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan and Atalanta are the two teams that in Italy that pressure their opponent best thanks to and orderly high press, one which gives them a quite European style of play.

Atalanta are slightly ahead of the Rossoneri in terms of average attempts to recover the ball in the opposing half of the pitch (per game) at 23.5 against Milan’s 23.3.

The two teams on the other hand are exactly the same when it comes to average number of shots born from situations of pressing on the opponents at 3.84 per game.

Milan excel in two categories: the average number balls recovered from pressure situations (32.5 per game) and the number of pressures in the opposing half of the pitch (79.6 per game).
