AC Milan’s struggles in front of goal have been well documented this season, but the remarkable campaign Harry Kane is having provides a fresh perspective.
Milan are on a run of just two wins in six games and they have failed to score in there of their last four fixtures in Serie A. They have racked up 48 goals scored in 34 Serie A matches, which is 32 less than the league-leaders Inter. To find an attic with less output, you have to drop to Atalanta in seventh.

In fact, there are even teams in the bottom half of the table that are not too far off Milan, and have scored more in 2026. Sassuolo, Udinese and Genoa are all in the 40s in terms of goals scored, albeit without the same defensive record to fall back on.
Stark contrast
A rather remarkable statistic popped up during Bayern Munich’s 5-4 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night in what was arguably the best first leg of a Champions League semi-final in the competition’s history.
Harry Kane has scored 54 goals this season across all competitions for the Bavarian side, and is well on his way to being the top scorer in Europe. By comparison, Milan have scored 48 as a team in the league, and 53 in all competitions.
Moreover, Bayern’s first choice front three of Kane, Luis Diaz and Michael Olise have combined for 100 goals this season, which is 47 more than the Rossoneri. The top scorers are on 10 for Milan (Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic).
Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku (formerly a top scorer in the Bundesliga), Santiago Gimenez and Niclas Füllkrug (tied with Nkunku in the year they shared the golden boot) have eight goals between them.
There have also been comparisons with Sunday’s drab spectacle at San Siro – the 0-0 against Juventus – as an example of how far behind Italian football is. Games between Milan and the Bianconeri have generated nine total goals in the last 10 league games. On Tuesday night, nine came in 90 minutes.

I do not think this a problem of the AC Milan only, this is problem of the Italian league.
Today I checked team stats, and 14 out of 20 teams are playing 5 at the back, and only few teams (Inter) are actually able to play attacking football with this formation.
