Milan attacker Saelemaekers recovers for World Cup: “I knew I would get better”

AC Milan attacker Alexis Saelemaekers has announced that he has recovered in time to feature at the World Cup for Belgium this winter.

Speaking during an interview with the Belgian national team official media (via Milan News), Saelemaekers confirmed that he will be a part of the squad in Qatar and he suggested that he always had faith in his own recovery.

“When I got injured I knew it was something serious, but I still remained calm. I didn’t get nervous. Right from the start I felt a certain serenity growing inside me and I started a mental process in my head to be 100 per cent operational as soon as possible.”

The player has been out for many weeks with an injury and when it first happened, the assumption was that he would play no part at the 2022 World Cup despite being an important part of the Belgium squad.

He stressed that not putting pressure on himself to recover was key when getting fit in time to make the squad that Roberto Martinez is in charge of.

“I didn’t put any pressure on myself, I knew that with time I would get better and today I am ready, and I am also ready for the World Cup.”

Stefano Pioli has been left with limited options on the right wing since Saelemaekers got injured with Junior Messias having to play more games.

  1. He was good a few weeks ago but did not want to play because he wanted to be fit for the WC instead. I can guarantee you that.

    1. He was actually first expected to make a comeback in the start of january so i doubt that he was ready to play a few weeks ago but i just hope he isnt forcing a comeback too early and ends up injured again,

    1. This season he has played 404 combined minutes over 9 matches (equaling 4.48 matches played ) and scored two goals and made an assist, actually not that bad.
