AC Milan will ‘attempt to reconnect’ with Mike Maignan and his entourage in order to discuss a potential contract renewal.
Maignan’s importance to the current Milan side is evident in the fact that he is wearing the captain’s armband, which makes it easy to forget about what happened three months ago. The Frenchman was apparently keen on leaving to join Chelsea, but no fee was agreed.

In the end Maignan remained at Milan, with Massimiliano Allegri vocally disapproving of his possible sale. However, he is in the final year of his contract which means the risk of him leaving on a free transfer remains high unless positive talks are held.
More negotiations planned
Pietro Mazzara published his weekly column for MilanNews and in it he dedicated a section to Maignan’s situation, confirming the plan to sit down for further discussions.
“Mike Maignan and AC Milan have not yet put an end to their relationship. The Rossoneri captain has guaranteed the club maximum commitment and professionalism this season, which began with his contract expiring, negotiations for his renewal that didn’t go very well, and a failed transfer to Chelsea during the mini-transfer window for the Club World Cup,” he began.
“From what we’ve gathered, Milan will attempt to reconnect with Mike’s entourage to determine whether the player is fit and willing to renew his contract. This will be done in the most straightforward manner possible, especially since, should the outcome be negative, the club will have to begin protecting itself for the future.
“Milan have great faith in Torriani’s abilities (he was strongly sought after by Lyon in the summer as a starter), as well as in Longoni, for whom a new contract will have to be discussed. It’s obvious that promoting Torriani could be an unpopular move at this juncture, and it’s right to look at more experienced players as well.”
Torriani should play some matches this season, in order to assess if he will become no1. I doubt Maignan will sign a new contract.
No way Allegri will jeopardize Milan’s results, therefore his job, trying a kid when he has someone far better in the squad.
We can consider Mike gone. At this stage of his career he probably wants more than a trading club competing for the participation trophy every season. Especially after being lied to his face and when he can pick his future team. Very poor management of the situation, again.
I think you may be right about Maignan, but I think Allegri should give Torriani the gloves for Coppa Italia matches. I think it’s a good solution, particularly given our early round participation. It’s like 5-6 games were going to be playing in the competition. I don’t think it jeopardizes us, because if we can’t get into at least the EL via the league, we don’t deserve to be there at all. And if Torriani proves a capable starter it helps us in the long run by avoiding having to spend money to bring in a GK (and for the most cynical, and it gives G3rry a zero cost asset to sell for “pure profit” down the road).
