SM: Milan awaiting Adli’s arrival – his role and numbers so far this season

AC Milan closed a deal for Yacine Adli last summer but as part of it he was allowed to stay on loan at Bordeaux for the season.

As our colleagues at SempreMilan.it report, Adli and Tommaso Pobega wll be the first two midfield reinforcements ahead of the 2022-23 season and the hope is that he has matured after another season in Ligue 1. But how is his season going? Let’s find out…

The numbers so far

With Bordeaux, Adli has made 31 league appearances, scoring 2 goals and providing his team-mates with 8 assists. These are good numbers but not extraordinary, which still indicates how much Adli is a certainty for them despite his very young age but still has some work to do.

Reading in detail, it can be seen that the 21-year-old has made plenty of appearances but only on 24 occasions has he played more than 45 minutes, being substituted 14 times and entering the field from the bench 8 times.

The role

There have been a lot of question marks about where Adli might play in Milan’s 4-2-3-1 given how versatile he has been for Bordeaux, or if his arrival might be a factor in a potential formation change.

He is able to play both as a right and left winger and as a central midfielder, but Adli mostly likes the role of attacking midfielder behind the centre-forward, and it is position on the pitch that the Frenchman has played most this season.
