Journalist claims Milan will send midfielder back to Chelsea and replacement is already identified

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are expected to terminate the loan of Tiemoue Bakayoko early and they already have his replacement in mind, according to one journalist.

Bakayoko is on loan from Chelsea until the summer of 2023 but Stefano Pioli has made it clear through his selection choices that the Frenchman is far down the pecking order and is not considered a big part of his plans.

It has so far not been a good experience for the former Monaco and Napoli man in his second spell with the Rossoneri and this has led to widespread speculation that it could be cut short by a year.

Now, PianetaMilan journalist Daniele Triolo spoke to Toro News and was asked about a young midfielder that Milan have on loan there in Tommaso Pobega.

“Pobega went to Turin on loan because Pioli likes him, but last summer he didn’t think he was ready to play in a double pivot,” said Triolo.

“At the end of the season, there are every intention of bringing him back to Milan, also because Bakayoko will return to Chelsea and also numerically another midfielder is needed who can play for the place with Tonali and Bennacer.”

Bakayoko has made 17 appearances for Milan this season but is now on a run of games without making an appearances which has hit double figures.

  1. Whoa Bakayoko has played in 17 games this season. I would have guessed 7.
What makes Pioli think that Pobega can play double pivot now when he doesn’t play double pivot for Torino. He has had more advanced role in Juric system

    1. Pioli is rigid and that’s his problem. Any smart coach would have seen the signs from the lone goal victories when Kalulu and Bennacer had to win games for Milan.

Rather than adjust the tactics to suit the strengths of the available players, he sticks to his plan even it is clear that opposition have figured it out.
