Sport: Milan and Barcelona in talks over Chelsea midfielder – why the Rossoneri have an edge

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Barcelona are set to do battle for the signing of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho on a free transfer, a report claims.

According to Spanish source SPORT, the 30-year-old midfielder is expected to leave Stamford Bridge on a free at the end of the current campaign as his contract expires in June 2023 and there is nothing to suggest a renewal is imminent.

Both Milan and Barcelona have taken steps towards signing Jorginho and ‘the battle is on’ to land the former Napoli man, with the Blaugrana and the Rossoneri believing that he represents a good value experienced midfield acquisition that would save budget for other signings.

Wages could be the key and Barca ‘have their hands tied in that regard’ for the time being due to the Financial Fair Play scrutiny that they are under. Milan are therefore ahead in that sense, because Italian taxation is also ‘much less aggressive’ due to the Growth Decree scheme.

  1. Imagine “slower than the referees ” Jorginho in Milan’s double pivot midfield set up.
You think our defense has gotten worse because of Kessie’s departure, it’s about to hit even worse levels if Milan gets Jorginho.
Give me either Mateo Kovacic or Loftus Cheek. They can keep the rest of their overpaid old
    midfielders
