AC Milan are making a ‘decisive move’ to try and sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to a report.

In the past few weeks, reports have emerged from various sources suggesting that Goretzka is a concrete target for Milan in view of the summer, when he will be available on a free transfer and could replace Luka Modric.

New talks held

According to Calciomercato.com, in the last few hours new contacts have taken place between the Rossoneri board and the Roof agency (the same one that represents Niclas Fullkrug) to get an update on the situation of the German.

Igli Tare is a great admirer of the Bochum-born midfielder and is looking to repeat the Luka Modric coup he pulled off last summer. He wants a player with experience, class and leadership, to help a club hungry to return to being the number ones in Italy.

Tare wants Goretzka, and Goretzka appreciates Milan’s advances. The contact revealed the Bayern man’s appreciation for Milan’s project, a crucial first step toward concrete discussions regarding a move to Massimiliano Allegri’s side.

Nothing is advanced at the moment, but Milan feel they are firmly in the running for Goretzka and do not want to leave any stone unturned. The main obstacle the Diavolo will have to overcome is the fierce competition from rivals who have stronger financial capabilities.

For example, Tottenham Hotspur were the first to register interest in Goretzka, intent on revamping their midfield. The real threat lies with Spanish clubs: Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have asked about the 30-year-old too.

In recent contacts, Milan have not deemed Goretzka’s potential salary demands to be beyond their budget. Clearly a pay cut will be needed though, and the commission issue will be discussed in more detail if wages are agreed.

  1. If the competition is this fierce, I fikdbir hard to believe Milan will get him. Goretzka kan go to Atletico Madrid or Barcelona, play Champions League alongside big players.

Milan’s pull would have to be Modric and a fellow German in Fullkrug (who might not even be there in 4 months)

This would be great signing if it happens. Goretzka can play every midfield role, being an ideal mezzala now and a good replacement for Modric when needed. He is a winner and had a healthy mentality which Milan can never get enough of. And getting a couple of Germans nowcould open a channel to more talents from that area in the future ✨

    1. We will be in the champions league next season. Aside from Barcelona, i dont see Atletico as a step above us. They play in the champions league too but no realistic chance of winning it. (just like us next season). It all comes down to league and salary. Everyone will probably offer more pay. that’s the real blocker.

      1. True. If he thinks long term, then Milan is not behind Atletico if you factor in the full package. And he will have a higher chance of winning trophies. I would also argue that a player like Goretzka does better in Serie A than La Liga.

But this will be his last huge contract in Europe before going to Saudi, so we better pay up or he is gone to Barca for sure

        1. Why assume that he would even want to play in Saudi Arabia ? a lot of players wouldn’t want to play there regardless of the potential money involved. Obviously it could be the case but far from any certainty that he would actually like such a move. I do nevertheless agree that it probably will be his last long term contract.

  2. The main problem isn’t even the competition, it’s the salary. He is one of the highest paid players at Bayern currently.

  3. He’s a work-horse like Gattuso, not a sleek player like Modric. Except they are looking for a replacement for Fofana, who’s largely been off and on. Only problem I have with his game is, like Fofana, he commits too many fouls.

  4. I can’t believe you guys want to sign him. We already got a manager who fails to give youth a chance while all the big successful clubs are getting younger, faster and more athletic players. We’ve already got 41 year old Modric and Rabiot and you guys want another old passed it player. Already Ricci and Jashiri not getting limited minutes. And before you say Bartesaghi, he’s only young player playing as Estupinian is useless. If we still had Hernandez he wouldn’t get any minutes with Allegri.

  5. Milan, your problem is neither a defender nor a defensive Midfielder…your problem is the attack …sign attacking/creative Midfielders, left and right wingers….Milan leave defenders alone….the world lack defenders right now….the best way to defend is to attack…
