Reports: Milan beat several teams to bargain Thiaw deal – ‘Part of long term project’

With Malick Thiaw beginning to find his feet at AC Milan, further details are emerging of how the Rossoneri managed to bring him to the club and what their plans are for the German defender.

As has been reported by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Milan paid €5 million and another €2 million in add-ons in the summer to bring Thiaw to the club from Schalke as they knew there would soon be a bidding war for him.

He is very much viewed as a key player of the future and that is why they acted swiftly to get him through the door, a decision that is beginning to look very wise.

A similar report from TMW’s Marco Conterio explained that Milan still had to beat other teams to sign him. Napoli and Fiorentina wanted Thiaw, and he has the same agent as Hakan Calhanoglu.

Thiaw was particularly impressive in the 1-0 win over Tottenham on Tuesday in the Champions League.
