Report claims Milan registered a firm interest in Southampton star

AC Milan are one of the teams that are admirers of Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz and expressed an interest, a report claims.

According to a report from FootballTransfers, Newcastle United are keen on signing Alcaraz and they held talks with the 20-year-old over a summer move, but it did not end up materialising because of their £30m (€34.7m) asking price.

The report mentions that Benfica and Milan also had talks, with both European clubs ‘registering a firm interest in their long-term target’, but the Saints are hoping Newcastle go back in for him in January.

Alcaraz has been mainly playing on the left-side of a midfield three having joined in January from Racing Club for £12m. He made 18 Premier League appearances, netting four goals and providing two assists, but Saints were relegated to the Championship.

The report does not mention whether Milan will go back in for the Argentine in the coming months but the fact they signed Tijjani Reijnders, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Yunus Musah for the box-to-box roles suggests there is less urgency.
