CM: Winger ‘completely lost’ at Spurs as Milan eye cut-price deal – the two influential factors

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are looking to take advantage of the possible opportunity to sign Steven Bergwijn from Spurs in a cut-price deal, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com describe the winger as ‘completely lost’ at Spurs which is why in June he could decide to pack his suitcase to relaunch his career. He joined Tottenham shortly before the pandemic in 2020 from PSV Eindhoven for about €35m – collecting 69 appearances, 7 goals and 10 assists in total so far –  but since Mourinho’s exit things have not gone well under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

This season he has only 3 goals in 723 minutes spread over 18 games, with only 8 of these being starts, and in 2022 his game time has dropped off further especially given the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus.

Ajax tried to sign Bergwijn and bring him back to the Eredivisie in January but the €25m asking price was too much, yet in the summer the price of the 24-year-old is destined to go down to about €18-20m.

Bergwijn is on the Milan wish list as the management monitors the situation. There are no official offers in the pipeline, and a lot will depend on the budget available to Maldini and Massara and on the future of Junior Messias.
