AC Milan board member Riccardo Stefanelli has admitted that the club’s vision is not to win the Scudetto immediately, but rather to build a more medium-term plan.
The prestigious Harvard Business School published a 24-page document in which it analyses Milan as a case study. They interviewed several key figures at the club and naturally the words of Gerry Cardinale have generated headlines.
More specifically, the battle has once again erupted between wanting to satisfy the fans by showing ambition in the form of investment and satisfying the bottom line, which means having healthy accounts and even turning a profit each year.
Riccardo Stefanelli – a member of the Board of Directors of Milan – also spoke as part of it and he revealed a bit more about the strategy for growth. MilanNews relayed his comments.
On the new stadium…
“A new stadium would allow us to take an event like a 90-minute game and turn it into a place where you can spend four or five hours. If we limit our business to the 40 euros or so that fans pay on average for a ticket, we won’t grow.
“We need places where they can eat and drink, where they can buy merchandise, and we need to have proper corporate hospitality areas. We also need a stadium that is alive 300 days a year.”
On the project…
“To make the most passionate fans understand how important it is for us to create value in five or ten years instead of trying to win the Scudetto right away. It’s a big challenge. Our fans are not very convinced by this type of process.”
W@nkers
It look like the management has come one by one to defend against curva protest “sell the club clowndinale”
Hmmm… Interesting… They all were ‘silent’ till stronger protest on club’s birthday and suddenly, they all are speaking now
If all they want is to earn premium cash from passionate fans let us the fans dig deep in our pockets and install an octagon in the middle of the field and let us fight the ceo’s, management and ownership. Personally i’d rather throw 2000 bucks after that than buying an ugly overpriced jacket that i wouldn’t even want to wear if i was given one for free.
In the end and kidding aside all of this attempting to do damage control in the last 24 hours isn’t helping you tossers at all if anything its about to blow up in your faces.
“the club’s vision is not to win the Scudetto immediately”
I don’t know which response to choose:
a) No sh1t, Sherlock
b) Could have fooled me
“To make the most passionate fans understand how important it is for us to create value in five or ten years instead of trying to win the Scudetto right away. It’s a big challenge. Our fans are not very convinced by this type of process.”
Convinced about what? We’re sitting at 8th spot in Serie A and out of CL spot that would take us to knockout stage. This team doesn’t follow their coach who knows only how to punish them in his incompetence. Their football is pure sh*t. Team value has decreased from 600 millions to 530 millions and we’re only in December.
What I am 100% convinced is, this club is hostage to bunch of incompetent narcissistic egotripping cash grabbing wall street h*es that took this team from Scudetto winners to cheap midtable reselling franchise in just two seasons. But hey as long as New Era caps and OffWhite keyrings are selling on a high, that’s what matters right?
“Their football is pure sh*t.”
Is it even football? At least it’s not a team play – just some random individuals doing their own things. Picking noses and posing for IG-posts.
So… Fans will have to wait 10 years for the scudetto? Yeah, sounds reasonable. I’m sure the fans will happily do that. As longs as the finances are OK because that’s what football really is all about. Finances. Go ahead, ask Barca. 🙂
We are fully awere, we started a winning project and steadily improved over 5 years, we where one step away from becoming a solid Champions League team only for red bird to come in and start all over again. Trying to fix something that isn’t broken is more likely gonna lead to you breaking it, like Cardinale have done here
There is a degree of stupidity in literally every comment section of an article on this site right now, so I avoid reading any of it, but I will leave a comment about this article.
AC Milan as a club was treated like dog shit by Berlusconi, point blank. He helped the club win trophies, but as a fan, we stay with the club after the owner and the players come and go. So the club and its reputation matter more to me than those who own and play for it.
I sincerely mean this, people—the fact that the club was broke from 2013 onwards is unacceptable. This club should have all the money it needs since 2007. But to be broke—and I mean so broke that because Mialn didn’t win the league in 2013, Galliani said that forced the club to sell players and buying an old Tevez was contingent on using the proceeds from winning the league.
This is an insult to the club and its fans, and it has put the team on a road that is called to me the Dark Ages for AC Milan. I never want to see this club’s need for a rich owner be the reason the club wins titles ever again. I am done -because they will leave one day and if they leave the club financially broke. I and every other fan will still be here to witness the dark ages again.
So I agree – this club needs to figure out its way towards making as much money as Real Madrid. I believe this club has everything it needs in its recent history to do that. I believe that these growing pains of not winning the league or not being always close to winning European and domestic titles are the consequence of what Belesconi did back in the early 2000s.
So I implore fans to swallow their sincere desire to win and be the top team that Milan used to be for right now. I won’t disagree that you should put pressure on the owners, but to say the owners should sell the club is wrong. It will not solve the problem that the club has had since the turn of the century. I want this club to be self-dependent and I know that would mean more time is still needed before getting back to where this club needs to be. That time would mean 5-7 years and during that time competing and having a stadium of the club’s own is essential.
So protest when these two things are not being achieved but be fair and this is not fair in my opinion to the current owners. They will be defined by how they deal with every issue they face so I am watching and if they fail to convince me then sure they will have to go but not now.
Don’t bother, yesterday someone posted all the stupid signings this management made, most of them were Maldini signings 🤦♂️
There’s a very loud group on here that will never give this team a chance. Most of them are the same ppl that said Elliot would turn Milan into serie b side. I’m convinced most are upset that when they were picking bandwagons they picked one that needed to be completely rebuilt from the abuse experience between 2004 and 2017
So because someone apparently wrote a misguided comment yesterday it rubs off on anyone else and the same goes for 1 or 2 people saying that we would get relegated doesn’t mean that was the consensus amongst the majority either.
Try to over simplify things a bit more as it’s not like it is any better than those you accuse of writing stupid comments.
Fact is we have waited already long enough and the new ownership has basically dismantled a well working project to start their own which by the way currently seems catastrophic so of course people will lose patience.
“The abuse experience between 04 and 17”, well we actually played 2 cl finals in that space of time and won 1 and then a Scudetto, 3 super coppas and a club world cup.
2 scudettos
They took a Scudetto winning team and one of the biggest teams in the world and just decided that they wont be winning titles any more but will somehow keep milking the huge fan base with overpriced tickets and merchandise. Wait till they found out that big clubs have ambitious fan base that wont put up with such bs.
Just the stupidity to think that you can run a club like Milan in such way…
This is so @ss backwards. We already were ahead of the project timelines by 2-3 years by picking up the Scudetto in 21/22. The books were also decent at that time. What’s this talk about a whole other medium term plan again before the next Scudetto nonsense. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. We were in a strong sporting position two years ago but dismantled that to recreate the trajectory that they just had. It’s beyond bonkers to me.
Again, long term-growth project. Again, please define it: what’s the timeline? I mean how tone-deaf can this management be?
Explain the project so the fans can choose to get behind it or not. This would ease the animosity created by the fact that the sporting side is in poor shape and no one understands what the EFF is going on behind closed doors.
I bet it’s defined in the case study. Remember SM isn’t interviewing these guys. They are just pulling quotes to compile whatever narrative fits…
“I bet it’s defined in the case study.” Lol.. does the case study include only meeting with staff for the first time ever recently to discuss club culture and what exactly they want to achieve? ….2+ years into the job mind you
How are you so sure it’s defined in their case study, if they have one at all? What about them gives that impression?
Looks like the plan is on track then…
