The summer transfer window only closed a few days ago but the management will already be planning future moves to improve Stefano Pioli’s squad.
According to what is being reported by PianetaMilan, the Milan leadership are big admirers of Juan Miranda. The Real Betis full-back – who came through the Barcelona youth sector – has a deal expiring next year and thus could become the new deputy to Theo Hernandez.
However, they launch a new name as well. There will be a need for another central defender given that Simon Kjær’s contract runs out and in all likelihood will not be renewed given his age and declining physical reliability.
In his place, Nico Elvedi could arrive on a free transfer too. The Swiss international has been at Borussia Mönchengladbach since 2015 having left FC Zurich and at the moment he is heading towards trying a new challenge, which could be in Italy.
The 26-year-old has made 271 appearances for Mönchengladbach across all competitions with 14 goals and 9 assists. He has also played 47 times for his country, and is a compatriot of Noah Okafor.
He’s not good. Better get Luca Netz for Theo Hernandez deputy or at least for he’s age he isn’t any use for Milan better get other one or younger one like Maxine Esteve
IMO, the DCs for next season should consist of Thiaw, Scalvini (only if Tomori is sold for crazy money to any EPL club), Gabbia and Pellegrino.
A new DL is still needed as rotation option for Theo. Gallo from Lecce is a realistic target.
DR is set with Calabria and Kalulu. Kalulu can also cover DC if required
I could not turn Tomori into Scalvini quickly enough. Tomori doesn’t read the game well. He’s quality is based solely on his speed without which he’s pretty average.
It’s already too late in many ways. Once Scalvini is done with this season we’re going to be priced out of that market.
He looks like another Bastoni. While there is certainly no disgrace in being another Bastoni, I think it is why there isn’t more hype. Is Scalvini on the slower side? Will he be suited to a back 3 more than a back 4? The answers to those questions are a resounding ‘no’.
Scalvini is much more dynamic than Bastoni, quicker and more powerful, not to mention that he has as much (probably more) technical ability. Scalvini is more Thiaw in a physical sense. He might not end up quite the brick wall Thiaw is but I think he might be a touch quicker.
It’s hard to get a precise read on Scalvini’s capacity because he’s still only 19. I wouldn’t expect a 195cm player to start to peak until 25. While that doesn’t mean , which is not to say that there will be consistent we will see consistent grown in physical capacity until then, he’s already a different beast to the one he was 12 months ago. I’d expect that level of improvement for at least the next 2 years. Like Thiaw he’s clearly a bit of a quick developer.
He’s also dual sided, a natural right footer who plays on the left and with his left foot. Gasperini has moved him into the centre this season.
A Theo-Scalvini-Thiaw-Kalulu back 4 after 40 or 50 games together would be world leading.
I reckon that in Scalvini we are looking at the result of some made scientist’s attempt to splice Chiellini and Maldini. The kid is a freak.
@Bruno
Really, can he play LCB? We’ve tried Thiaw there briefly when he’s partnered with Kalulu but probably all of our current CBs would prefer to play RCB. Tomori is played LCB because he’s the “least worse” there out of our options.
I always had Scalvini down as RCB. If he can play well as LCB (it happens, look at VVD a right footer playing almost exclusively LCB for club and Country) then I agree with you this is a no brainer.
Sell Tomori next summer we could likely get close to €50mn from EPL and re invest hopefully for not much more cost, to getting a younger, better CB … who also happens to be Italian and likely an Azzurri regular for years.
Not saying it will happen or whether we can stop him going to a club that pays better but… you never know.
Forza Milan
He played LCB in a back 3 basically all season last time around.
