CM: Milan want two centre-backs in the summer – the strategy and the names

By Oliver Fisher -

The Milan management are working on fine tuning the centre-back department for the 2022-23 season and they have targets in mind, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com reports how Milan’s growth will depend mainly on two factors: the results on the pitch and the choices on the market. The owners have the clear intention of prioritising investments on talented young players, and that is why everyone agrees on Sven Botman from Lille being the number one target.

Negotiations with Lille are well underway in view of the summer as the Rossoneri management look to complete an operation they failed to get over the line in January. However, they will not stop after signing a ready-made defender because they also want a young profile to grow.

Malick Thiaw of Schalke 04 is a player that Milan have been working intensely to sign for weeks. There will be no problems finding an agreement over personal terms with the entourage of the player, but Gelsenkirchen club value him at over €10m.

Under these economic conditions, the deal with Milan risks being definitively scuppered and that is why the idea of signing Mattia Viti is gaining momentum, because the 19-year-old knows the league already and is valued by Empoli at just €4m.
