AC Milan are believed to still be ahead of Newcastle in the race to sign Sven Botman from Lille this summer, according to a report.
Speculation continues to build after the two sides showed interest in the defender in the January transfer window. Ultimately, neither side made their move with the price tag deemed too high.
Since January, Botman has seemingly become a primary target for both the Rossoneri and the Premier League side. Dean Jones from the Transfer Tavern states that Milan are currently ahead of Newcastle in the race, but that could still quickly change.
With Milan currently challenging for the Scudetto and already back within the sphere of Champions League football, however, it is believed that Newcastle will now struggle to capture Botman’s signature.
The 22-year-old has featured 28 times in all competitions for Lille this season, and could reunite with former teammate Mike Maignan at San Siro.
