Signing a right-back has to be one of the big priorities this summer for AC Milan, and movement is being made.
With a left-back brought in, a right-sided defender is all that is really needed for Milan to have a complete backline. Maybe there can be debates about quality compared to previous targets and players, but there is a certain solidity seen from pre-season that has not been present in a while.

Marc Pubill and Guela Doue have been the leading options for the right-back all summer, and perhaps they may still be pursued. However, it seems the first move to be made will be for Zachary Athekame.
Switzerland to San Siro
Playing for Young Boys in Switzerland, the defender made 43 appearances last season, including a few in the Champions League. Born in 2004, the 20-year-old right back could head South and join the Rossoneri for a small fee.
Today, market expert Fabrizio Romano discussed the situation and the operation’s price via MilanNews.
“Milan are moving forward strongly in their contacts for Zachary Athekame, the Young Boys right-back. The Rossoneri have presented an offer of €7 million, while the Swiss are asking for €10-10.5m. An agreement could be found somewhere in the middle.”

Omg how can they ask 10M when he is valued ar 5M? Small club mentality, they are just trolling Milan. #FreeAthekame. Right clowns?
Another foreigner, great. How will we register this new import, we already have 17 spots filled with foreigners, and because we keep selling our Italians we won’t comply with squad regulations?? So how will we fit everyone in ?? Makes no sense…..can someone please explain to the management that we have enough foreigners already, i would rather see Terraciano at RB than get yet another random foreign name !!!!
Not many good Italian RBs available, within our budget at least
But I agree, remember the so called “italianisation” of the squad this summer… basically was just Ricci. No lucca at no.9 or Coppola/Comuzzo as CB. Haha I remember being linked with Udogie /Cambiaso/ Retegui etc and laughed.
The justification can be given we aren’t in European competition this year so don’t need to meet UEFA squad lists. But as we saw with Kerkez and now Liberali, gifted youngsters don’t get chances at this side. And we finished 8th last year , 8th!!! So don’t give me the excuse its because we can’t use them because we need to win now. We don’t win AND don’t give talented youngsters a chance. It’s the worst of all worlds
There were many more. Milan could have had a bench of academy players and they wouldn’t mind being rotation options. Bellanova, Cristante, Maldini, Brescianini and so on. But instead we are developing players for Real Madrid, much better…
Before we were linked with him, I have never heard of Athekame. From what I saw on YT he is fast, solid cross and good defending. But then again, people on YT tend to upload only quality bits of a player. Wish we could see less quality bits as well to be able to come to a conclusion. I’ll trust Tare’s judgement and I hope he delivers for us. Having said that, I agree with you 100% on our academy. Bellanova developed significantly at Atalanta. He’d be an asset for us, especially as he can be deployed on the left as well.
Under 22 years old can be registered without a limit
Considering the fact there is a young Italian prospect at Atalanta who play as Right Back
He looks like a promising player but unproven at this level. Based on videos he looks like a good prospect. For 8-9m worth a punt, maybe he will prove his worth, if not then everyone will be crucifying the club for not signing a proven RB. That’s always the dilemma. I would look at Santos of lille. He would cost a little more but is ready for the step up.
When Moncada was coming to Milan there were stories how be discovered Bernando Silva, Mbappe and so on. At Milan he discovered Jovic…it would be about time Milan sign some talents and they come good, or Moncada should go.
never thought i would have wished for Pubil to have come instead
As long as Fabrizo is aware,
Here We Go
Weak candidate..
but Milan is a strong DEI Team! Lets go 🙂
