Tuttosport: PSV and Atalanta duo options as Milan’s CB search continues – the reason

AC Milan could well sign another central defender to complete the department, and there are three names that stand out.

One of the most talked-about topics of discussion during Milan’s preseason, one which is now drawing to a close, has undoubtedly been Massimiliano Allegri’s tactical approach. In particular, his repeated use of a three-man defence, rather than the 4-3-3 many were convinced he would use.

The dress rehearsals went well, which could mean that the coach will continue down this path. After the sale of Malick Thiaw, therefore, just the arrival of Koni De Winter from Genoa might not be enough.

One more needed?

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), the problem is that if Allegri intends to continue with a three-man defence, having four centre-backs is no longer enough and it would be necessary to bring another one in.

Who could it be? All the signs, so far, point to Caleb Okoli, an Italian formerly at Atalanta who plays for Leicester City. He would like to return to Serie A, especially after last year’s relegation with the Foxes.

There is already an agreement in principle with the player for a five-year contract worth less than €2m net per season. Work needs to be done with the English club, who are asking for around €20m.

Among the most likely alternative candidates are Atalanta’s Berat Djimsiti and PSV’s Ryan Flamingo. The latter was suggested by technical director Geoffrey Moncada, as per the newspaper.

  1. 40m from thiaw sale and buy 2 new CB for less than 40m it’s pure class from Tare. Milan not in champion league competition and that’s why they should be more smart in this market.

  2. I mean before the summer I had barely any expectations thought we would sell all stars and replace them with mediocre players but we only sold Tijji and Tare is currently cooking I love this buying Okoli is great and just get the Højlund think out of the way and we are complete actually I think Højlund will be a good backup to Santi just if we would have had Tare in the last two windows

  3. Schira aside, Milan needed another CB even before Thiaw left. With KDW here, Milan ought to go for a more veteran/commanding CB.
