Repubblica: Milan City Council say no to referendum on new stadium

By Euan Burns -

Milan City Council has said no to the two possible referendums relating to the new stadium for Inter and AC Milan, a report claims.

As has been reported by Milan-based newspaper La Repubblica today, the two issues would not have the technical and accounting feasibility to be put to a referendum.

The first referendum in question referred to the preservation of the current stadium without needing to build a new one. There would be a focus on the regeneration and development of the area surrounding the stadium.

The second issue was the cancellation of Milan City Council’s resolution where the public interest in the new project was declared necessary last November.

In the opinion of the municipal offices it is difficult to support the admissibility of two referendum questions from a technical point of view.

The ball will now pass to the College of Guarantors, which by August 3 must express its binding judgement on the admissibility of the referendums.

  1. Move to sesto if cannot build around milan area. Thats why italian club hardly compete economic with EPL,because that stupid government policy. We need own stadium for more income & sponsorship

    1. Completely agree. But hard to believe these owners will spend a billion dollars on a new stadium when we can’t even sign one transfer (CDK) lol

      1. Are you dumb? Elliot & Redbird already agreed to fund a new stadium because it will give Milan more fresh income.

As for CDK, kids like you never understand the art of negotiation. Just because you have money doesn’t mean you should easily agreed to pay more than the market value. You would made Milan bankrupt in a blink of an eye if you’re the one manage the club 🤦‍♂️

  2. the city council definitely unsupportive about the idea from the start…tbh it feels like they use the clubs as their toy.
the sesto area seems more open to the stadium project. so why not? build one with enough capacity that easier to expand later…but, did we have the money tho?
