Reports: Milan want to close Athekame deal quickly with new bid ready – the latest

AC Milan want to get a deal wrapped up for Young Boys right-back Zachary Athekame in the coming days, with a new offer ready.

Milan have been linked with a number of players to strengthen that side of the defence, from Guela Doue to Marc Pubill. However, Athekame’s name first emerged in a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport earlier in the week, and things have since accelerated quite quickly from there.

It was reported on Sunday that Milan are ‘very, very close’ to striking an agreement over the 20-year-old defender. The fee is expected to be more towards €10m compared to the initial bid, which was €3m less.

Milan push to close quickly

Now, Fabrizio Romano has published the following update: “AC Milan are prepared to improve their bid and close deal for Zachary Athekame. Young Boys informed Milan this morning that they want more than €7m initial bid. Athekame only wants Milan.”

His colleague Matteo Moretto adds: “Milan are pushing to finalise Zachary Athekame. In recent hours, Young Boys rejected the first official offer of €7m for the Swiss right-back.

“The Rossoneri are ready to make a new bid in the coming hours. Advanced negotiations between the parties, Milan aims to finalise everything by midweek.”

This Swiss U21 international currently plays for BSC Young Boys in his home country. He has made 45 appearances across all competitions, with one goal and three assists to his name, having joined from Neuchatel Xamax FCS.

  1. Have we skipped approaching anyone from Switzerland this summer? Apart from Athekame, Jashari, Xhaka, Sohm, am I missing anyone? Quite interesting considering Swiss players are very small part of the pool of players in Europe. Maybe Moncada is part of some French-speakers-supremacy organization.

    1. When you get an Albanian sports director that is how it goes. Nothing to do with Moncada. Albanian sports agents are strong there and Tare knows them.

    1. RB and striker should be from Serie a. How on earth do we expect these guys to integrate into the league when they are playing excuse me to say weak leagues. Remember, kessie, tonali n bennacer we already in Serie A. They won the league. As of now, only Ricci is signed.

  2. Jimenez is our first choice so he will arrive as backup with time to eventually compete for starting spot. Smart signing with plenty of up sides. Adaptation is the risk but if Udinese or Torino paid 8-9m nobody would complain. If it pays off he will be worth 25-30m by end of season. His wages will be low too. I don’t mind this transfer. Low risk, high reward.

  3. What bout omar el hilali ?? He has the most tackles in laliga last season and had the most successful tackles right under aramburu and he is very young with a price tag of around £15 million and doesnt seem like any other club is fighting for him right now. Also better than DOUE. Espanyol wont swindle his price tag like top laliga clubs and club brugge.
