Numbers reveal Milan have enjoyed commercial and retail boom since Pulisic signing

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have enjoyed a retail boom of sorts since the signing of Christian Pulisic was made official, according to a study publishes.

The HuddleUp Substack talk about how RedBird founder Gerry Cardinale and new AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani are looking to open new revenue streams, as seen with the Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network (YES Network) and New Era partnerships.

Later this month Milan will take part in the 2023 Soccer Champions Tour – joining Arsenal, Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid – and American fans will get the chance to welcome Pulisic.

The signing of the forward will help multiply Milan’s popularity in the United States given that he is the captain of the national team and has been the biggest name in American football (soccer) for some time.

Pulisic has over nine million social media followers across Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter as the report writes, and his impact is already being felt at Milan.

“Milan received 46 million impressions and 17 million video views on their social media posts related to Pulisic’s arrival at the club, and the commercial stats are telling.

AC Milan retail stats (since Pulisic signing):

➤ +266% increase in sales compared to the previous day

➤ American buyers represented 43% of all sales (up from 9%)

➤ 90% of the customised ‘Pulisic’ shirts were sold in the US

➤ Pulisic jerseys represented 45% of all shirts sold since the announcement

Pulisic gained 45,000 followers on Instagram within 24 hours too, so it has been a mutually successful beginning to the relationship from an exposure point of view.

HuddleUp add that Milan are expected to bring in more than €375m million in revenue this year, which would be a 40% increase from the club’s 2022 revenue.

  1. You see?
Pulisic has such a HUGE following in the U.S., he more than pays his own way in terms of the increased revenue he brings into the club from U.S. fans.
So all you Milan Ultras, stop complaining that he’s injury prone and a risky signing. Financially, this was never going to be a risk for Milan, for the transfer fee Chelsea were willing to let him go for.

    1. Chelsea is a place of bad luck, and we tend to do well with their players when signing them. Like Tomori and Giroud. I’m confident he’ll do well here.

    2. Lol bro, these are percentages. There’s no actual figures or volumes attached to these percentages.
For instance, a 266% increase could mean we sold 26000 shirts from 10000 the previous day or it could also mean we sold 11 shirts instead of 4 (approx) lol 😂.
I’m not saying there isn’t an impact but We’ve also lost the best selling kit (Tonali) in the team so we don’t know if it’s a net gain. Based on social media we should pick up Pogba. That being said the Americans are very good at translating social media to consumer spending

      1. Bro, nobody is talking about Tonali. We’re talking about this player. He has a big market base here in the US. I don’t know why you would even make weird comparisons and state we sold 11 shirts instead of 4. Seriously dude… get a grip. Tonali left at his own will.

        1. No he didn’t – those greedy yanks shoved him out the door into the street like a dirty dog! Bastadios! 😭 (I got that from Ted’s Mexican soap opera.)

          1. Tonality is gone. We all love him,but he’s gone. You can as well go with him to NUFC or be a Milanista and move on.

        2. Bro it’s math. 11/4 is 2.66 give or take hence I used approx. It was just a fictitious example to drive the point. What I’m saying is that the increase of 266% in itself is meaningless unless you have the starting number.

If the previous day we sold a low volume of shirts and then signed a player the next day, obviously the %increase is going to be astronomical 😂. Obvi Americans are going to make up a high % of those sales. Those numbers aren’t surprising. It doesn’t say how many kits were sold. I’d like to see those figures. I’m sure it’s alot.

“We’re talking about this player” yes we are. We bought Pulisic and RLC as direct replacements for Tonali who had the biggest volume and % of shirt sales for the team last season. Hence, if the figures are not in excess of what Tonali brought to the team then how can we say it was a benefit from that aspect or revenue generation (hence I mentioned we don’t know yet if it’s a net gain). But u can’t tell by the percentages shown here in the article. If Pulisic brings in $10 but Tonali $20, would u consider that an improvement?

I have no clue what Tonali leaving on his own will has to do with this. We’re talking kit sales..he could hv left on his own or not, doesn’t matter to me…he’s gone and was replaced.

    1. Ah yes, it just so happens that he will also be the most dangerous attacking player Leao has had to play alongside since he came to Milan. What a fortuitous bonus.

  2. Because duh…. US market and exposure is an incredible opportunity. Musah will help too with American viewership.
