AC Milan have confirmed that Rafael Leao has left the club to join Galatasaray, ending the summer saga and his seven year spell at the club.
It seemed likely – even before the summer – that Leao would be leaving Milan in this mercato. The parties weren’t together like they once were and when he publicly announced his desire to move on, it was a next step, rather than a first one.

What followed was months of questions about where would be next for him and how much the Rosoneri would get. Unfortunately, everyone knew it wouldn’t be a nine-figure sum like would’ve potentially been on the table a few years ago.
Nevertheless, they’ve earned a solid fee for a player that was ready to move on. It’s a fair deal for all parties and a chance to move forward.
Leao officially leaves Milan
Now, this morning, the club have made his departure official, posting a statement on their website in recent minutes.
“AC Milan announces the permanent transfer of Rafael Alexandre da Conceição Leão to Galatasaray Spor Kulübü.
“The Club thanks Rafa for the professionalism and passion shown in the Rossoneri shirt over these seven seasons together, during which he contributed to winning the Scudetto in the 2021/22 season and the 2024 Italian Supercup. To Rafa, best wishes, both personally and professionally, in this new chapter of his career.”
Thank you for everything you gave us. I will always root for you, but as hard as it is to admit, this move is exactly what both you and the club need at this moment. Take every lesson you learned in Milan and use it as fuel. Your story is far from over, and you still have the ability to be one of the best in the world. You’re still that kid from Amora never lose that spark. But you owe it to those streets to finally unleash the full weight of your talent. We all want to see you touch the sky, even if you’re wearing different colors.

It would be hilarious to see the Turkish economy collapse in a couple of years, then it’s nothing but fire sales right and left.
I thought he was the best in Italy when he was on his front foot. When Mad Max took the helm, Rafa dropped significantly because he was played in the wrong position. He should have been on the left flank. Missed opportunities.
