GdS: A new Milan contract for Leao would not rule out a move in the near future

By Euan Burns -

A new AC Milan contract for Rafael Leao would not necessarily rule out a move in the near future for the Portuguese star, a report claims.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the talks that are currently ongoing to get Leoa to sign a new contract will not necessarily be the end of the matter.

The Rossoneri are meeting with the player and his entourage on Tuesday at Casa Milan to try and agree on a new deal and there seems to be confidence that they can extend the deal which runs out in June 2024.

Even if he does sign a new deal in the coming weeks though, it does not mean that he is set to stay with the Rossoneri for a very long time.

Majorly wealthy European clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid all retain a serious interest in the Portuguese forward Milan know they may just be protecting his value ahead of a move.

  1. Clearly not but it will certainly improve our chances to keep him for a while longer AND get a better check for him. Don’t be cynical

    1. Indeed. NO ONE is safe regarding other clubs’ interest. Look what happened to Messi too. Everyone can be bought in every club if the offer is right.

      1. Messi went for free because Barca couldn’t afford to pay his wages within the salary cap structure that La Liga imposes.

He didn’t want to leave Barca.

  2. Of course… but getting a new deal (even one that that is closer to $5M/year and isn’t close to the $7M/year that Leao’s entourage has been asking) is actually something that makes sense for both Leao and Milan. He is only making $1.8M/year now and if we did nothing and didn’t sell him to another team because we didn’t feel we got a good enough offer, then for the next year and a half until contract expires in 2024, Leao will be making A LOT LESS money than he could be making if he just chose to accept a $5M-ish deal now and extended the contract to 2025 or 2026… and that would still leave the potential open for a move to a more wealthy PL club or PSG or something if a team made a great offer to Milan in the future and if he keeps playing well/improving, then he could later secure a contract closer to that $7M / year number he wants. It seems like a silly waste for him and his entourage not to accept something that will SIGNIFICANTLY increase his weekly paychecks from the current based on the $1.8M salary he is only getting paid now.

    1. I don’t think he’ll just get 7m if he goes to PSG or PL club. He will get 9-10m. So the key here is getting to the 7m for a small extension that will allow us to fully monetize him. I think 7m to 2026 is fair, with the gentleman’s agreement/idea that he’ll be sold in the summer of 2024. This would give Milan his services for another 1.5 seasons and also give him Euro 2024 to further showcase his skills and jack up his value.

    2. Another element to this negotiation is the release clause. I bet they want it lowered. It may need to be the sacrifice to get him to sign. So that it may be reduced to 120m. If it is and he does sign then you know what his price will ultimately be. If the club is smart they will set to to be active from 2024 on (if the contract is to 2026).

  3. Leao must first be grateful to AC Milan to have made him become The World Star Because it is in Milanello where you
Enter Stardom Just see Rivera I rahimovic Van Basten Gullit And RounCosta If he is not datsfied For me 60 Years fan of A.C Milan i say Go we have Tonali and The New Belhian Dtar but most of All We Have Maldini and Pioli So Leao Sugn the Contract that not only makes You Richer but will open the Doors to Eternal STARDOM like Gianni Rivera and Marco Van Basten
    Or Ciao Campione

    1. Chill man. He’s not close to 222m yet. He needs to be more consistent and do what he does in Serie A in the CL consistently. Per my above post, I think the ideal is an extension to 2026, and a sale in 2024 for 150-175m.
