Moretto: Milan currently ruled out of Vlahovic sweepstakes due to ‘very high’ demands

Matteo Moretto believes that AC Milan will not be serious contenders to sign Dusan Vlahovic while his demands remain so high.

Of all the strikers that have been linked with Milan in the past few weeks and months, Vlahovic is the name that has been mentioned perhaps the most, or has certainly attracted the largest volume of discussion. We analysed what he could bring to Massimiliano Allegri’s set up last week.

His ability has been proven in Serie A, but he is in the midst of a difficult campaign due to injury. With his contract at Juventus expiring and no sign of progress towards a renewal, there has been speculation that Milan could swoop for a free transfer.

Vlahovic wants too much for Milan

However, Matteo Moretto spoke on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel to give an update on the Serbian, suggesting that he can not be considered a serious target for the Rossoneri unless the demands are lowered.

“I can confirm that there is some confusion about who is managing Dusan Vlahovic’s interests. It seems that at the moment his father is in charge of the situation,” he said (via MilanNews).

“I have been saying for some time that the agreement between Vlahovic and Juventus is far from a given, the Bianconeri are reflecting on the renewal of the Serbian internally.

“At the moment, negotiations between the parties are at a standstill, but I can add that in May negotiations will resume, Juve will return to speak with Vlahovic, even if the issue of salary plus commissions still needs to be resolved.

“Juve’s idea is to keep him only if he were to accept the conditions of the Bianconeri club, also because the player, from a physical point of view, does not exude great security.

“Juve knows that at the moment Vlahovic does not have any great offers from either Italy or abroad, especially given the figures the striker is asking for. So at the moment everything is on hold, the other teams are not taking the plunge, the figures he is asking for are very high.

“Dusan’s demands are very high. In Italy, Milan can’t get close unless the Serbian lowers his financial demands. Other Serie A teams looking for a striker include Napoli and Roma, but Vlahovic has always closed the door to these destinations.

“We’ll see what happens; right now we’re in a waiting phase. Juve will only sign the renewal if the player accepts the Bianconeri’s conditions.”

  1. I don’t understand this: If you don’t have to pay 50-75 ml to a team to buy his contract and get him for free, why can’t you pay a higher wage or fees? Now, I am not endorsing getting him, but I just don’t understand the financial aspect. In the end, for a good striker you are going to pay 50+ ml. Just wondering.

    1. One of the biggest expense in football club is actually the wages every year not the transfer fee. This is also why few years back, club like Leicester despite regularly sold player at big fee got hit by Financial regulation, because their wage bill is simply too high.

      1. Jim is completely right. If you go for another player and pay 50M but you pay him 2M less per season, how much more did you spend after 5 years? Compared to a 0 fee and 2M more in wages per season?

    2. There is no such thing as getting a player for free. Players who are out of contract usually ask for a hefty signing bonus and agent commissions. The whole operation to sign him as a free agent would be cheaper but not as much as some fans think. The difference is that instead of paying a lot of money to another team you pay a lot of money to the player and his agents.

      1. You value what you think over facts.. Even some of the biggest sign on fees weren’t even close to the value of the potential transfer fee. If we exclude Mbappe the sign on fee wasn’t even 20% of the value of the player. It’s enough to look at the list of the biggest sign on fees in history to notice only top 4 are over 10M….

    3. Wages are a recurring and mandatory cost. Transfer fees are a choice. Business 101, any company’s biggest expense is labor.

  2. “Juve knows that at the moment Vlahovic does not have any great offers from either Italy or abroad, especially given the figures the striker is asking for.

Flopped at Juventus, can’t stay healthy, but still demands a high salary. Of course he doesn’t have any great offers from either Italy or abroad.

  3. “Free” in the sense that Juve gets nothing from letting him go, not in the absolute sense that it costs us nothing. He will get some bonuses and his agent will get some commission. It is not completely free the way you think it is my friend.

  4. I get the fees, which I mentioned. Lets say you have to pay him 10 ml a year for 5 years and that’s 4 ml more a year than you planned. So that’s 20 ml extra. Then add in a 15 ml signing fee. You’re now up to 35 ml. Still 15 ml under the 50 ml transfer fee. And let be honest, a good, proven striker is going to be closer to 70 ml. Again, I am in no way suggesting we sign this guy but if Allegri says he is the guy I want, I am not sure how it doesn’t work out financially. One problem, and here’s reality, I never thought that ACM was going to get the cash they thought they would for their players out on loan. ACM may not really have much money to spend. Their most vaulable assests are Leao and Pulisic which has always lead me to believe that to give Allegri what he wants, one will have to be sold. Nkunku will stay as a backup or Chuck will be brought back in. Chuck looked better in the EPL as the game is more wide open so there is space to dribble in attack.

    1. It’s simple Jim, the math is there as you showed. But some people choose to make up stories about unknown fees when the reality is no one outside of Messi, Mbappe and Alaba got over 10M sign on fee (free transfers only).

    2. Where did you come up with 50 milion transfer fee for Vlahovic?
Juventus signed him for 70 m 4 years ago when he was one of the biggest striker talents in Europe. Today he is valued half that on Transfermarkt
