AC Milan will not proceed with the signing of Jean-Philippe Mateta after undertaking further medical tests on his knees.
Heading into deadline day, we knew that a deal had been agreed between Milan and Crystal Palace after negotiations over the weekend. It was expected that the striker would pass a medical on the final day of the window and then fly out to Italy to sign, yet things then hit the buffers.

Mateta to Milan: Deal off
According to the latest from Sky, after the final medical checks carried out today in Paris, the negotiations between Mateta and Milan have definitively fallen through. The Frenchman therefore will not join the Rossoneri, as the doctors did not get sufficient guarantees.
Gianluca Di Marzio also reports that Milan have walked away from Mateta. It remains to be seen whether Juventus will try to make a move in the final hours of the transfer window, even if Matteo Moretto seemed to rule this out.
It’s certainly not an ideal situation for Milan, after a deal had already been finalised with both the player and Crystal Palace. It remains to be seen whether there might be another attempt this summer, but what feels more likely is that other targets will be pursued.

Clowns
Yes milan are really clown
Thank God now go get icardi!!!
It’s funny really they couldn’t see anything wrong with Pulisic, Leao, Nkunku, Gimenez…Bunch of clowns
stop describing yourself in the mirror
And who the fu*ck are you smartass?
He is a legendary clown on this site.
Sometimes he appears out of nowhere and will start insult whoever is criticizing Milan board.
His mouth is full of board members di**
Ah thank you. Explains a lot now
Speaking of the pot calling the kettle black… right on.
That’s because there wasn’t anything physically wrong with them. Go look at how well Boniface is doing.
This. Was going to say exactly this.
Should have been looking to sign a midfielder instead of a striker.
We have 6 midfielders for 3 spots. It’s probably the one are of the pitch we don’t need players. Jashari barely getting any time as is.
You have 6 midfielders that all do the same thing.
Outside of Modric, none of them can make the simplest pass. One of them doesn’t even pass forward.
By your logic, Milan doesn’t need Mateta or a striker either, because they have 5 for 2 spots already.
100%
our midfield needs a younger vice-regista: Bernabe, Vermeeren, Altimira, Casado, Perrone, Samardzic would all fit the characteristic
RLC needs to be kicked out. Athekame hopefully develops well enough. And by judging Mateta situation, we will get Vlahovic and Gila for Max in the summer.
Not really. We have one healthy striker, Fullkrug. Pulisic and Leao aren’t strikers and also aren’t fully fit. Nkunku is a SS, and Gimenez is injured.
Well, yes. We technically don’t need another striker, but the difference is half of them are crocked. But, in any case, by your logic, we still don’t need Mateta because these supposedly non-passing midfielders will still not pass to Mateta. Is Mateta going to pass to himself?
They won’t bring additional mids unless they can offload the ones who can’t “make a simple pass”
Are you actually kidding me? I don’t believe this management anymore. This was the perfect opportunity and exactly the type of ST Milan needs right now. Meanwhile, Nkunku and RLC (!!!!) are tipped to start versus Bologna, we have no substitute for Saele and apparently we couldn’t do better then Disasi on the CB front. It’s an absolute miracle we’re sitting in 2nd place, but with Roma, Juve and Napoli all acquiring new players, I fear the worst.
What are you on about? Obviously there was something in his medical that they didn’t like. What does that have to do with management?
Athekame is the replacement for Saleamkers.
What I’m on about: this knee problem seems rather hypothetical. He’s played 23 matches already this season and scored 8. That does not look like someone who needs surgery any moment. Also, he would have been an immediate reinforcement to secure CL, seeing that right now we have 0 attackers fit to play. We can’t afford the luxury of denying players who might or might not get injured in the far future. It’s mental. But you’ll see tomorrow, when Nkunku and RLC “play” from the get go. This is disastrous.
Boniface also kept playing, and where is he now? If Mateta’s situation is anything like Boniface’s then I’m glad it’s off.
That’s not true. Boniface didn’t play consistently. Also, he had repeated knee trauma. Good call or no, the reality is that Milan have no fit strikers that are actually able of bringing home a CL qualification. If the management really would have been serious about finding another striker or CB, they should have started at the beginning of the window and not the end.
I don’t think Allegri will have any issues securing Top4 with the current roster. They are no world beaters but THIS they can do. The problem is what happens next year, because THIS roster isn’t good enough for CL and the league. But then again, there will be more options available in the summer.
A lot of assumptions, as usual from people. How do you know they weren’t looking at the beginning, or even before the window open? People were all like “Furlani gonna cook” when Comvest came in. No, there is no cooking. We’re not just going to drop 35M on any striker. This club has to consider every move carefully. We already dropped 35M on a striker last January and it’s not working out yet. We dropped near 40M on a striker this summer and it isn’t working out yet. We’re alone in second, after finishing 8th last season, we’re not on the verge of relegation. A healthy and more effective striker would be ideal, but it will only happen under the right conditions, and people need to calm down.
Have you seen Juve and Roma, or even Como play lately compared to Milan? They are only getting better and better, contrary to Milan. Do you actually believe we’re comfortably in second place?
Como just drew 0-0 to an Atalanta side who was down to 10 men the entire match. We will finish top 4 with the squad we currently have, and there is no signing we can make now that will have us beating inter for the Scudetto so…
The top 4 that is now will probably be the top 4 at the end of the season. Roma can’t score enough goals and Como is not quite ready yet.
@Matijs van de Sande
So you’re saying that signing Mateta was going to make us play like Como, Juventus and Roma?
Matjis, btw, Roma just lost their EIGHTH game of the season. They got their third striker of the season (Malen), and still can’t score. There is a lesson therein.
First of all we have 5 attacking players, and Allegri will never play more than 2 at a time, so that should be enough. The problem seems to be more on the medical staff not being able to keep players healthy.
And your solution is to spend a bunch more money to bring in a player that can’t pass the medical exam?
i ja
Who is going to get the blame if Milan miss out on top 4 after failing to improve the squad this mercato. Why I say this, all the top 5 teams have added players and seem to now be more comptettive. Our forwards are all broken, no one is 100% fit. Our defenders is one bad injury away from collapsing. I don’t know how
Much longer our luck of seeing games 1-0 or drawing will last. I actually do see now potentially losing to Juve, Napoli, Inter now if we keep playing like this. And especially if we drop points to lower table teams. Honestly, we may not make it
Top 4
Yes, exactly. Why did the management only start acting at the end of the window?
The management did not start today, only the media do. The management is working throughout the whole year, but you dont see it.
90percent of time, all we are commenting/judging/criticising are things made by the media, not by the management.
Man you are clueless. We already signed one striker in this transfer window. And if it were up to you we would have just dropped another 30 mil on a player that needs knee surgery. Thankfully this management has more sense than you do.
We won’t miss out on top 4 but if we do the biggest blame should fall on this dinosaur of a coach who tries to play every match hoping for a 1-0 win, who never thinks about attacking until the team falls behind and who parks the bus anytime we get a 1 goal lead rather than trying to finish the game off.
The secondary blame should fall on the medical staff who can’t keep anyone healthy, but this is nothing new, it’s been happening for years with this team.
Big teams secure signings when window opens
It’s like Fullkrug doesn’t exist for some people or something.
The squad is so crippled.
Wow so many medical doctors on the forum. I didn’t know you guys all came here on your spare time away from the operating table.
Btw I have this rash on my leg… Anyone wants to tell me what that’s about?
probably that girl you were with last night…. Seemed too good to be true. Try penicilin.
😂😂
No worries! We believe in Fullkrug the “Toothless”😁
I’m not sure this management want to buy this Mateta in d first place. If they are sincere , why wait till 11th hour to strike a dear. Top 4 really in doubt because with the rivals other international engagement, they still perform better than we do. When all of them are out of international competitions, that’s when we will feel the heat.
A bad pray from me, hope juve take him and he became a great player in there…. Then later we take a lazy vlahovic …. , how stupid we r, Look out at boniface and pubill now? Damn we r cursed with those fu**in our milan useless doctors
The only thing I’m wondering about is whether they killed the deal because of the knee or because they couldn’t offload Nkunku in time…
Same.
The only crime here is that you don’t leave it for the last day of the Mercator. You move fast in the beginning and – if medical worries show up – you move to other targets. Poor time management.
great we only sign fulkrug while pul leao gimenez nkunku rlc fofana jashari sala athekame estupinian pavlo gabbia and fulkrug btw got hit with injury (small or fully) and we only sign him also in mid modric basically doesnt count since he isnt gonna last . and they didnt brought anyone else . it seems they arent working full year only when the transfer window is open thats why they cant decide who to sign . also they said for CB did we sign anyone? this management needs to resign they sign fulkrug first team and three for the futuro like great they putting top 4 in jeopardy nice!
Inter still looking strong and at least they didn’t drop points against weaker teams like milan do.
And now napoli is out of ucl they can focus on serie a.
While milan will keep playing with rotation in attack department because there’s always someone who got injured.
Scudetto seems out of reach.
Never, ever believe we have signed someone until they are on the pitch playing football for us.
I’m amazed there is anyone left who’ll still deal with us.
Do you follow football? This is a regular thing, the media starts reporting on things that aren’t true, the naive fans like you and the SM staff start believing every post they see on X and then when those “journalists” turn out to be wrong like they are 90% of the time, the ignorant blame the management as if they were the ones claiming to have a deal done 🤦♂️
FUKC FURLANI
FUKC FURLANI
FUKC TARE
FUKC TARE
FUKC FURLANI AND TARE
FUKC CARDINALE FOR KEEPING THESE TWO BUGGERS.
not for one second did I believe this was going through lol
Crap like this is why inter milan is way ahead of milan in terms of a team, as well as in points. This is wrong on so many levels. Milan management does not deserve a second star based on their wild decisions. They just destroyed and deceived Mateta after he PUBLICLY expressed that he wanted out. Wickedness on the administrative and on all levels.
Wanted us to sign him but signing him and then sending him for surgery isn’t gonna work for us so I’m glad it’s off , same situation as Boniface. Personally I think this is a good stance to take when looking at players. In my opinion we’d be better waiting and signing someone else in the summer
The issue is management disrupt a player in their club, leaving that club holding the bill for an expensive replacement.
We always go after injury prone players because they are cheaper.
The guy was priced at a level of an injury prone striker.
So when Milan disrupt everyone and then say, eh we’re not happy with the medical.
The sellers are like yeah obviously he has issues that’s why he’s 35 not 65m what are you doing?
I’m not sure what you have a gripe with here. This is all standard practice and occupational hazard. You can’t book a player for a medical THEN negotiate a price and /or decide you want or don’t want him.
Milan went by the book. Selected a player, contacted the club, negotiated a deal in good faith, booked a medical. His knee got flagged so they go in for a closer look and decide it isn’t worth the risk. Boniface 2.0. I’m good with this.
CP would have allegedly known about this because this issue was flagged back in December by them. Nothing ventured, nothing lost by Milan. I’m usually critical of the management but this time I have zero qualms …
In fairness to Palace they were very upfront and honest so as not to waste everyones time.
They told Milan he had been playing with a knee injury and even sent his medical records
As I said, that’s why he was the price he was, same as Boniface.
So either spend proper money on a good striker without injury problems or if you’re going to pursue players like Mateta, don’t waste everyones time
Finally we learned our lesson with these bad purchases.
And one more thing for the “why did we wait until the end of the window” crowd: I don’t think we planned to bring in another striker after Fullkrug at all. Fullkrug IS the attacking reinforcement until the end of the season. The problem is Fullkrug seems to have injured a toe in what, his second or third game with us? So this Mateta idea was a last minute thing by necessity, and then they must have seen an opportunity with him that hadn’t existed when they were looking at Fullkrug in December. People need to remember that Mateta has his own will and Crystal Palace does too. The same opportunity may not have been there in December, hence Fullkrug, but now they went for Mateta because Fullkrug got hurt and Mateta’s situation at Palace evolved.
