Milan defender Gabbia discusses strengths and weaknesses plus relationship with Pioli – video

AC Milan centre-back Matteo Gabbia has become the latest member of the Rossoneri squad to answer questions from fans on Instagram.

The 20-year-old made his senior debut for the club earlier this year and then established himself in the starting XI before the season was halted due to the Coronavirus emergency.

Gabbia answered questions from supporters on social media, with his responses transcribed by MilanNews which was have translated below.

On a great Milan defender with whom he would have liked to play: “It is not easy to choose just one since so many champions have passed here, but if I have to choose one I say Paolo Maldini.”

Baresi, Nesta or Maldini? “Difficult to make a single name, I would take the best from each of them.”

Favourites team-mates? “There are many, but if I have to name names I say Paquetà and Kessie.”

Strongest team-mate he has played with? “Having only three appearances in Serie A I say Romagnoli, but I think that all the Milan centre-backs are very strong and I will try to steal something from all of them.”

On his Serie A debut: “It was a unique emotion, it was the crowning of a dream. It was a fantastic emotion.”

On the number 46: “I am very attached to this number that the year of my grandmother’s birth. It is a way to always have it with me, this gives me great strength.”

On San Siro: “San Siro and Milan are an incredible passion for me that have been part of my daily life since the early years of my life, first as a fan and now also as a footballer.”

On his first start: “I had to play my first start against Fiorentina in front of a lot of fans. I was very happy with the coach’s confidence and also very determined to do the best possible.”

On his strengths and weaknesses: “My main advantage is the determination and the desire to always improve. I have to improve in many things, but I hope to fill these defects soon.”

On his dream: “I hope to score the first goal in San Siro under the Curva Sud soon.”

On his idols: “I never had an idol in particular, but as a child I really liked Sheva and Kaka.”

On passing time during lockdown: “I’m trying to train hard to be ready for a possible recovery. In my free time I like to watch TV series and spend time with my family and my girlfriend.”

Favourite music? “I listen to different genres. My favourite artists are Ozuna, Capo Plaza and Ultimo.”

On Pioli: “I have always had a sincere and frank relationship with him. I owe a lot to him because he gave me confidence in an important moment of the season. Even when I wasn’t playing he always treated me as an important player. I owe a lot to him.”

On football: “It has always been my favourite sport, I always played with my cousin at home. From there my passion was born”.

On the craziest player in the locker room: “It has to be Kessie, he is very nice.”

Favourite food? “Certainly pizza.”

On Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo: “They are two unique phenomena. If I have to choose I say Messi.”

On the fans: “They are unique, they have always followed us everywhere. I can only thank them.”

On the suspension of the season: “Unfortunately we are going through a difficult situation. I hope the season can resume, but there are people who have studied it that are prepared and who will surely make the best decision for everyone.”

On the change of role: “It was difficult at the beginning because I had never been a defender. I tried to improve and now I really like this role.”

On Ibra’s presence in the locker room: “It is an advantage for everyone, it is unique both in terms of personality and experience. It gives you a lot both on and off the pitch.”

Three words to describe AC Milan: “Describing it in just three words is not easy. I say history, passion and responsibility.”
