CM: New Milan defender has similar profile to previous missed target

By Euan Burns -

Soon-to-be AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has got a similar profile to Sven Botman who Milan were chasing for many months, a report claims.

As has been reported by Calciomercato.com today, Thiaw is of the same physical profile as Botman but the similarities do not stop there.

Both players are very good at dealing with dead-ball situations, they have incredible levels of anticipation and they are adept at man-marking.

Milan were on track to sign Botman since well before the end of the previous campaign but the delay caused to their transfer window by the takeover of the club by RedBird Capital Group meant that the definitive bid could not be made.

The player was very keen on the move but in the end, Lille accepted a bid from Newcastle United in the Premier League and Botman decided to make that move rather than keep waiting for the Rossoneri to move.

  1. With one important difference: speed

Thiaw is not slow like Botman. This is important aspect in high defense line that Milan use.

    1. Exactly that’s why he is targeted…..speed is something which milan is inventing as prime traits for defender…..the way kalulu and tomori have imposed themselves.. its helps in transmitting from back to forth for counter punch…..tbh he is not bad afterall. He may not have a breakout season this year but he will be a sound asset for the team in long term……he is hard tackler have to work on that. With time I am sure he will fit in perfectly a good buy though…..

  2. If we buy botman then we cannot buy CDK. It is blessing in disguise. Repair AMF position more important than CB . Brahim will return next season to Real Madrid and make CDK & compete for starting team for AMF

  3. Finally we signed a defender with tall figure and great aerial ability. Hope he can perform well. And exciting to finally have a Germany player on our rooster again.

  4. For 6M there is not so much choice in the market
    He’s a backup and he’s young
Let’s see what our managers can turn him into.
Maybe even Maldini will give him a few advises.

  5. Maldini was a defender, so He knows a good defender and he can see the potential.

Its like maximising open source software rather than spending too much money k
on enterprise softwares. Agile and startup mental!

  6. I mean just look at Kalulu, a young boy that came in for very cheap and was unknown. After a year or two he cemented himself in the starting XI!

At this point when it comes to defenders(CB) i think M&M know exactly what they are doing. Give the guy a year or two and we will see why he was bought for 7+ million, THEN we will realise what a bargain we made!

And also as mentioned above, the botman deal not going through indeed was a blessing in disguise as the money where spent somewhere we really needed upgrade.
