Milan defender Thiaw handed first senior call-up by Germany

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has been handed his first-ever senior call-up to the Germany squad by head coach Hansi Flick.

The young defender has previously only played for the younger divisions of the German national team. He has made 11 appearances for the Germany U21s and in those games, he managed to score twice which is a good return for a defender.

Germany have got two friendlies to play over the international break which are against Peru and Belgium, so Milan will hope that Thiaw can be handed his senior debut whilst also avoiding an injury.

Thiaw joined Milan from Schalke 04 in Germany at the start of this season and he had very limited involvement until 2023. The decision of Stefano Pioli to switch to a back three meant that there was a need for an extra defender and Thiaw took his chance superbly.

He has since been a regular starter alongside Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu.

  1. Malick is a decent defender. It’s this Tomori who is being little bitc*
He did not get called on to England squad and in his mind, he is mad.
Bench Tomori and you will see decent Malick again,
