MN: Milan determined to hold on to Leao – the starting point for renewal talks

By Oliver Fisher -

After being named the Serie A MVP last season, Rafael Leao has continued his excellent form into the new campaign having scored three goals in the first five games.

MilanNews recall how Leao gave an extraordinary performance in the Milan derby with two goals and an assist for Olivier Giroud along with many top-level plays. He is the real match-winner of the side, but the issue of his renewal must soon be tackled.

Milan have every intention of holding onto him for a long time, and will soon propose the renewal of his contract due to the deadline being June 2024. Otherwise, the rumours of interest from top clubs in Europe will persist.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara must therefore make a new attempt to get the Portugal international to commit his long-term future to the club, and the report mentions that the starting point for the negotiations will be around €6.5m net per season.

If someone want to renew, like Tomori, Theo, Tonail , there will never have that problem,

    1. Some players are just that special and command large salaries. If we want to return to glory, we have to understand that. I’m just as displeased as you about the profiteering by agents in modern football, but there’s not much you can do about it. From Leao’s perspective, Mendes is an effective agent that can get him the best contract possible, and you can’t blame him for that. Every other large team deals with this, just the same as we need to. Open up the wallet and pay, board. Leao is a star.

    2. @Apex thats what im afraid of its not about whether the management wanted to met his demand or not, thats why i rather see him go to chelshit rather than us getting nothing, but even that would be difficult if his agent aiming for huge commision from him as a free agent.

  2. Sell him as soon as they can. One good game and now he will go missing for a month. Milan’s game is to use a high press, Leao never helps in that. If he doesn’t have the ball he just walks around. Is he a good player, yes, would most big teams be interested, yes, is he lazy as hell, yes, so cash in while you can.
