Di Marzio: Why Milan had a quiet January and the reason big summer spending is expected

By Oliver Fisher -

Gianluca Di Marzio has made the bold claim that AC Milan are set for a busy and important summer transfer window after a quiet January mercato.

Speaking on Sky (via MilanNews), the journalist revealed his belief that the club’s owners Elliott Management have never created problems for the management due to budget reasons, especially if the players that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have chosen are young and quality players.

He adds that ‘there is no limit’ to the amount that Elliott are willing to spend but Milan’s decision not to sign anyone other than Marko Lazetic in this January market is linked to the fact that the summer market ‘will be a very important market’.

There will be the loss of Franck Kessie to deal with as he will not renew his contract unless something sensational happens, so ‘a strong midfielder like Renato Sanches’ could arrive, while Alessio Romagnoli’s future must be resolved.

Di Marzio states that Milan ‘absolutely need to sign one if not two strong central defenders’ and that one ‘will surely be Botman’. On Bremer there will be competition from Inter. In midfield they tried to catch Renato Sanches but there was not enough time.

    1. Tomori 28 mil, Bennacer 16mil, Leao 30 mil, Theo 20 mil, Kessie 24 mil, Maignan 14 mil,…
The current squad (when fit) is above 130 mil in transfer fees. Need more prove?

      1. prove what? that Elliot had ambition? no, they only targeting ucl, nothing more.
if they ambitious enough, they should have bought cb and am to fix the squad.
Juve bought Vlahovic because they need a striker, and Inter bought Gosen to anticipate Perisic’s departure next season.
Like it or not, This is a sports club, not a trading company.
players and fans want to win. this is milan, not arsenal.

  1. More to the point, they need to survive the next FFP audit with less income than was expected from tickets this season and no progression in the Champions League.

    1. Correct. I think Milan needs to start considering a lawsuit against UEFA because they allow other teams (Inter, Juve,…) unlimited debt while we’re under strict FFP rulings. Unfair competition when not everybody has to follow the same rules.

      1. ffp is bullshit, only applies to small and poor teams.
look at psg and city who have great political influence, they are untouched

  2. next season milan must sign in scamacca and bremer, the reason is because they are what the team needs and most importantly DON’T LET inter become stronger.
