CorSport: Milan in discussions with Napoli striker over move – the obstacles

AC Milan have held initial discussions with Lorenzo Lucca’s camp regarding a potential move, but it will not be a straightforward one.

The future of Lucca is a hot topic at Napoli. The striker was acquired from Udinese in the summer on loan with an obligation to buy, but he has not really hit the ground running. The return of Romelu Lukaku after a long injury lay-off threatens to further reduce his minutes.

Milan to the rescue?

This is why there has been talk in recent days of Milan’s interest in signing the Italian. As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress) reports, the most important aspect is the formula behind his recent transfer to Napoli.

Lucca, as mentioned, joined the Serie A champions on a paid loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. If Napoli decide to send him out on loan in January after reaching an agreement with another club, they would have to bring forward the striker’s permanent purchase, which is €26m.

There’s another issue too: the striker’s desire to stay and continue to prove his worth in Naples. Napoli have discussed Lucca with Milan, but for now the situation remains on hold pending any developments.

Discussions are underway with all parties involved, but it seems as though Santiago Gimenez’s departure is also a pre-requisite. So, Milan might have to turn elsewhere.

    1. I’m not sure it’s Milan looking at failed players, I think it’s the media looking at any possible option to gain a scoop. If they’re right, they’ll be geniuses. If they’re wrong, they’ll never acknowledge it or bring up the topic again.

    1. 12 games and 1 goal so far? To be called “decent”, I expect 3-4 goals after 12 appearances. I know Pisa is a lesser team and might not be serving their CF in the best way possible. But let us not talk hypotheses such as if he received better service, he would score more. We do not need hypotheses, we need factual numbers.

    2. As a Dane I will say he has had a career quickly going upwards in a short span of time from lower Danish divisions to success in Sweden and then to Italy but I really don’t think he is ready for a club like AC Milan. Might never be but he might develop further in the coming years but as things stands I’ll say pass.

  1. Honestly, best option is Sorloth! He is a complete CF, ideal for Serie A. If Mateta doesnt extend with Palace, he would be a good option at end of season.
