AC Milan dream of signing Luka Modric and are willing to offer him a contract after he left Real Madrid, according to reports.
Modric is quite simply one of the best midfielders to ever play the game and he won 28 major trophies at Real Madrid, including six UEFA Champions League titles, four LaLiga titles, and two Copa del Rey titles, making him the most decorated footballer in the club’s history.
However, time waits for nobody and at the age of 39 it was decided that the Croatian would not be offered a new contract and would leave the Spanish capital on a free transfer. No retirement announcement has followed, though.
Modric: Milan’s dream
According to Matteo Moretto, Milan ‘dream of Luka Modrić’. The new sporting director Igli Tare has already discussed the possible free transfer internally but the player is in no hurry to decide his future and will figure out the next step together with his family.
Moretto went on to explain the situation in a bit more detail in a video on his YouTube channel, and he admitted that for now it is not an open negotiation but rather an idea.
“We are not talking about a negotiation in progress but only a dream on the part of Milan. Modric hoped until the very end to renew with Real Madrid, which for him was home and everything: the club has decided to focus on young players and wants to start a new cycle,” he said (via MilanNews).
“Modric will still compete in the Club World Cup so at the moment he is in no hurry to find the club of the future and wants to choose well. He has had many calls but there is no negotiation: he wants to maintain the maximum respect for Real until the end.

“This aspect does not interfere with the dreams of the Rossoneri. Igli Tare is working very hard on this type of name and is trying to bring back a certain type of mentality: a player like that would make the difference in the dressing room.
“Tare’s intention is to improve the squad with this type of move. We will understand in the coming weeks if this dream can become reality. It will be essential for Modric to discuss it with his family when he has to make a decision.
“One factor that could work against him is the fact that he wants to play in the Champions League: at the moment he would prefer to play in it.”
Fabrizio Romano adds: “Modrić received several approaches from clubs all over the world since leaving Real Madrid, not in a rush to pick his next club.”
Milan have previously been linked with a move for Modric, such as in the 2021 summer transfer window. The midfielder has also admitted on several occasions that he grew up as a fan of AC Milan, with his idol being Zvonimir Boban.

Would love to see him in red and black, even at 40..
I think he will be a truly fantastic signing for us . He ca do it at good level for 2 years for now with no problem.
Then should have gone for De Bruyne instead.
Please don’t repeat the Walker debacle.
Don’t sign.
Modric would be the leader this team has been missing since Giroud and Kjaer left
We don’t need a 40 year old who can’t make us defensively solid or fast, this is rubbish
Yes, Reijnders, who he would replace, made Milan defensively solid. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tijji had energy though I don’t see modric doing all that running at 40 unless we get real workhorses with some talent cause modric fofana and musah (what if ricci needs a rest) just isn’t going to cut it
This must be the dumbest idea ever. A 40yr Modric with a high salary is not a good investment. Why not go all out for Rovella. That would make way more sense. Unbelievable
I would love to see Rovella in milan. From what I saw from him last season, hecwas way more impressive than Ricci. Him, Tonali and Barela are probably the best Italian midfielders today
Please tell me this is a joke. We are rebuilding, not creating a platform for transitioning into old age…and no disrespect to Modric but we need a clear medium to long term approach for this project…not stop gap solutions.
We need leaders alright, but this is ridiculous. And I say this holding that Modric is one of the greatets midfielders in football history…
He’s the player we’ve been missing since Pirlo left. Creative midfielder capable of opening almost any defense. At 40, he’d still be a massive upgrade over any midfielder in Milan for the last 10-15 years.
Bring in Rovella and watch him grow and be relevant for years. Not a 40yo Modric no matter how glorious his career has been, with ZERO capital gain.
