AC Milan are working on the signing of Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace for the summer rather than immediately.
Some big news broke this morning: Milan have moved ahead of Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Mateta from Crystal Palace overnight, after talks between the clubs. Personal terms have been agreed with the striker, and now a €30m transfer agreement is close.

Despite this, there is the possibility that the France international may not arrive until the end of the season, with the possibility that Christopher Nkunku’s sale might facilitate the speeding up of things.
Mateta move later not now
Now, Matteo Moretto has given his take on things during a video on Fabrizio Romano’s Italian YouTube channel. He confirms that talks are ongoing, but Mateta may not arrive in this window.
He claims that Milan are working on the operation more in view of the summer. The directors would like to try to lock down the player now, aware of the fact that there’s competition from English clubs.
Milan are pushing hard on the player’s will to make the move to Italy amid strong competition from Nottingham Forest. There are also commissions and the salary issue to take into account, making it an ‘economically significant operation’.

Mateta is exacly the type of stiker that we should sign. We tried with young unproven lads with potential (like Gimenez, Piatek – they were doing good in some minor leagues like Dutch, Polish) who failed, and with expierienced guys proven in top leagues but post their prime (Ibra, Giroud, now Fullkrug). Going for 28 y.o. striker who is in his prime years, and played last six seasons in the Premier League hitting good numbers despite playing for Palace is a good move.
I truly don’t understand this addition unless someone is sold. Just brought in fullkrug and then you will have those two, leao, pulisic, nkunku and gimenez fighting for two spots. Invest that money in a solid center back. Depth is too deep if he comes in at striker.
Well… someone will be sold. lol. My guess is, Fulkug loan will be it, Santi will be sold after the world cup (Management hoping he does well there). That would leave us with Rafa, Puli, Nkunku and Mateta upfront. I do think the problem isnt solved. Mateta is the only CF. Realistically, Rafa, Puli and Nkunku are SS. but what do i know. i’m just a fan
I watched Crystal Palace and Mateta several times. A very solid and technically excellent player. He coordinated very well with the right wing of Ismaila Sarr! The two are the main attacking force of the club. I believe he would be great in attack with Pulišić and Leao.

The type of player is ok with me…. brings new options that wasnt there with santi or nkuku…
the player will not have a resale value because he would probably be 33-34 when his contract ends…
but to do this before selling Santi is a bit sus….
Firstly, they are trying to bring him in now, according to reports, by increasing the transfer total. If that happens, someone leaves now, probably Nkunku.
Secondly, we need to understand if Allegri is going to try to do the same sh!t next season with two upfront, because then you have to make decisions on Leao and Puli and Nkunku and what front two will work together in his defensive set-up, which by the way will absolutely not work in CL.
Lastly, who is going to be in charge of the transfers? Furlani with his idiotic Nkunku/Odogu’esque purchases or someone more competent who can bring in someone Allegri can actually use?
Right. Crystal Palace are not playing him this weekend.
