Repubblica: Milan eyeing €36m West Ham man as search for long-term striker continues

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan remain admirers of Gianluca Scamacca who continues to have a fluctuating time at West Ham United, according to a report.

Milan were heavily linked with a move for Scamacca during the summer transfer window but he chose to join West Ham who invested a sizeable fee to sign him. So far he has three goals in 16 Premier League appearances, and is being used less and less by David Moyes in the scrap to avoid relegation.

According to Repubblica, Milan are looking for the striker of the future with Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic no longer able to start every game given their age. The Rossoneri management will have to think about a possible long-term option and Scamacca is among the options.

The London club spent €36m last summer to sign him from Sassuolo but the feeling is that the 24-year-old could return to Serie A if there is not a positive upturn between now and the summer. He could become the beacon of the Rossoneri attack, taking the baton rom his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

  1. I feel like he is gonna be like Immobile. A season or 2 outside of italy and then comes back and goes boom for whoever nets him.

  2. The main problem on recruiting guys from England is to match the ridiculous pay they got there. See Origi or Bakayoko, they end up being useless at a huge cost. Not sure it’s worth the gamble.

  3. Scamacca is 195cm.

In the Australian football code I follow, it is widely recognised that players of this size take longer to develop.

While physical strength is not as significant a factor in soccer it is still important. It has taken Scamacca a while to come to terms with the physicality of the game and that should be no surprise because he has a higher centre of gravity but did not have the strength needed to hold off and beat opponents. He showed last year that’s no longer an issue.

His last season for Sassuolo was very good and is a reflection of his quality. Again, in Australian football this would be the age a player of his size is expected to start his really productive years (I.e. enters his prime).

He is a very similar player to Zlatan, both in size but also technical ability. He’s quicker and slightly more conventional but without the trickery and piss taking ability of the great man. Having said that, it would not surprise me at all if he returned to Serie A and become one of the top strikers in the world.

There is no real deficiency in his game. There is not much he can do if Moyes wont play him.

Scamacca should be priority number 1 for Milan.

    1. “ it would not surprise me at all if he returned to Serie A and become one of the top strikers in the world.” LOL. Listen I mean if we sign him I pray your right – but this is a huge stretch buddy and really really wishful thinking LOL. Nobody on earth has ever said this guys has what it takes to be one of the best strikers in the world? Dream another dream

      1. Did you watch him play for Sassuolo last season?

Headers, free kicks, clinical finishes, bombs, assists, holding the ball up and feeding his team mates.

        What more do you want?

I’ll back 16 serie goals before I’d back 30 in some shit league like Austria, Belgium or France.

  4. Just to further the point at 22 to 23, the age at a which Scamacca ‘broke out’, Luca Toni, another big man was about to play his first season of Serie A.

It wasn’t until he he turned 26/27 in season 2003/2004 that Toni, 193cm, had his break out season scoring 30 goals in Serie B for Palermo which he backed up with 20 goals in Serie A in 2004/2005.

For this reason I would also look at Lorenzo Lucca now. He has extremely good mobility and technical ability at 201cm. I’m not saying he could lead the line next season but he will be 22/23 and within 12 months of starting his productive years. He would cost very little to buy from Pisa as back up. I might even loan him out for 2023/2024 to play Serie A.

      1. Ajax is not playing Lucca much.

He dominates the reserves comp and is quite effective when he does play but it doesn’t seem They’re particularly interested

With an option, isn’t not like they need to guard against price increases.

    1. He was average at Sassuolo nothing more. He had one good season at 16 goals – then flopped at West Ham. Prior to Sassuolo he scored 8 lol. Hardly a proven goal scorer. Hasn’t shown he can produce at higher levels like the EPL and did nothing for the National team. like I said I would hope your right IF we signed him – but for 36M there are better players out there. If he wasn’t Italian we wouldn’t even be discussing him. Height/size means nothing if you know how to use it. Nobody has ever pegeged this guy to be one of the best strikers in the world. Pass for me

  5. We can only get him 20m euro if westham relegated. For now lets skip this scamacca unless we can get rid origi or ibra retired. Better try develop lazetic or colombo or nasti first under giroud / ibra guidance

    1. The Hammers have just lost 4-0 to Brighton.

A loss next week and wins to a few teams and West Ham is back in the bottom 3.

If anyone knows voodoo, now is the time.

  6. Pls pls NO. So OVERRATED. It’s only because he’s Italian. Is anyone really surprised he flopped at West Ham? Could see that coming a mile away. He’s another Destro, Borriello, etc…small market player IMO
