Sport: Milan face opposition from Barcelona and Juventus for Grimaldo – the situation

In the summer, it seems AC Milan will sign a left-back with another expected to depart the club. Now, a new name has been suggested.

For a few months now, it has seemed likely that Pervis Estupinan would leave Milan in the summer. The Ecuadorian has not worked as hoped and he has not replaced Theo Hernandez. Instead, that has been Davide Bartesaghi.

So, the Rossoneri will hope to recoup as much of their €19 million investment as possible and there is interest in him. Whether they will be able to get the full fee back, though, is something else entirely.

Another target arises

Earlier today, it was suggested that the Diavolo could make a move for Theo Hernandez, insinuating that they are in the market for a left-back/wing-back and now another report has suggested as much.

Rather than it being Theo, though, the suggestion from Spanish outlet Sport (via OneFootball) is that Alex Grimaldo is a target.

The Spaniard’s contract expires next summer and he could be available for as little as €12 million. Barcelona are seen as a leading party in the race, but there are several clubs tracking him, including Milan.

There is no indication about whether a decision will be made before the World Cup, but it is a good option to monitor.

  1. Weren’t we linked with him a season or two ago when he would have cost us A LOT less? But hey, notoriously we’re hesitant to pull the trigger.

Grimaldo is a solid player and a hell of a dead ball hitter.

    1. Right, Milan being hesitant was the reason he didn’t sign with Milan.
Not wanting to be a back up at Milan had nothing to do with it.
Who played at left back for Milan a season or two ago? It was actually 3 years ago.

      1. We haven’t had a respectable alternative to Theo pretty much since we signed him and ran him into the ground. Having had Grimaldo you don’t think any of the coaches would have rotated him in for Theo in the numerous times Theo would forgot how to defend?

        1. This isn’t about Milan needing a respectable backup at left back, but about you saying that he didn’t join because Milan were hesitant to sign him?
There were so many teams wanting him, so why would he come to Milan to be a backup to someone who was considered the best in his position, and hope that he will get some minutes from Pioli, when Theo would forget how to defend, especially when Grimaldo isn’t good defensively either?

  2. Grimaldo and Gila would solve our issue in defense. If they can be agree to before the end of the season, we would have plenty of time for the attack and the midfield.

Bernardo Silva and Vlahovic are also great free agent options.

  3. Haven’t seen much of his form lately, but if he’s still pretty much the same man when he’s under Xabi, 12 mil is a no brainer.
