What we are witnessing is something familiar: Lorenzo Torriani is shining in preseason, leading to questions about his immediate future.
With Mike Maignan currently on post-World Cup leave, La Gazzetta dello Sport write that Torriani has been putting in some excellent performances this pre-season. In Glasgow, he succumbed to two goals caused by errors from his team-mates, but then defended the net well on at least two occasions.

In the derby, he also stood out for his calm and correct approach, qualities that would serve him well under Ruben Amorim. He made a superb late save on Calhanoglu’s angled strike as a reminder of his shot-stopping ability, too.
A spot to seize
Torriani is now 21, and it is an age when you need to start thinking about the present rather than just the future. As of now, no specific instructions have been received from the club: the new season has begun with the old hierarchy in goal: Maignan, Pietro Terracciano, and Torriani.
The question is simple: is it right that a boy of his age and with his skills is destined to still be the third-choice goalkeeper? Ultimately, it might even be reductive to promote him to be Maignan’s deputy, given he must now develop with regular starts.
Last season, the club laid out a carefully planned path for him: Lorenzo was always officially included in the first-team squad, but in reality, he was mostly called up by Milan Futuro. Pittarella was used more as an emergency goalkeeper on the bench by Massimiliano Allegri.
This choice was clearly driven by the need to give Torriani experience, using the second team in the way and for the needs for which it was created. The academy product’s rise began two summers ago when Paulo Fonseca called him up for the US tour.
He found himself in the starting lineup against Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Barcelona due to Marco Sportiello’s injury. He made decisive saves in all three matches, including the penalty shootout against Barça that allowed Milan to win the third match of the tour.
Then came his dream debut, in the Champions League against Liverpool at San Siro, coming on for the injured Maignan. Now, upon returning from the tour, it’s likely his name will once again be a subject of evaluation by management.
It’s unlikely that another season in third place, or in Serie D, will be considered the right path for him, so a decision will be made.
Maignan, our so called captain who couldn’t be bothered to turn up to Baresi’s funeral, can leave and Torriani can be our no 1, hopefully Chelsea come in with an offer, or anyone for that matter

I really hope that they either put him 2nd goalkeeper with minutes in some matches or at least promise him the coppa italia matches. This guy could become really good!
Sell Maignan which is average now , has nothing special in the last 2-3 years and make some cash to bring a defenderor a winger and promote this young goalkeeper. Be brave.

How long is maignains contract? I think we should keep him this year only, with Torriani being 2nd goalie also give Torriani matches in Copa Italia and europa league. If maignain have co tract until 2030 or 2031 then we should keep him 1 more year at least.
How is Maignan average now when he played 8 matches in the World Cup?
Yes I believe his good enough for first place cause seen certain silly mistakes the so called first choice keepers makes , his 21 will learn on the job and increase value
1 GK (though, it would be nice not to make a single change in this department for once (for a change)), 2 CBs, 1 RWB, 1 LWB, 2 MCs, 2AMCs and 2 SCs, that’s how this transfer window should have looked like but what have we done so far instead?! Only two new players (three if you count Diawara but there has to be one MORE DC) have arrived by now (with 25 days to go) out of ten or eleven?!

A courageous Mihajlovic made a bold call to start a 16 year old Donnarumma… think about that.
Torriani is already 21. At that age Donnarumma was already Italy and AC Milan number one, and AC Milan captain.
Best goalkeeper in the Italy after 5 solid years as starting goalkeeper.

By the way, Plizzari’s case is a typical Italian story. Wasted talent because we always say they are too young.
Italia, especially milan have long history of good GK, like lorenzo buffon, seba rossi, gio galli, toldo, abbiati and the last Donnarumma. Milan should turn into that good history. I think torriani have good talent. This season they must do something with torriani. Loan out or to be 2nd GK…
