CM: Milan face threat from Napoli over potential Theo replacement – the details

AC Milan are constantly browsing the market for a possible Theo Hernandez replacement, and Patrick Dorgu is a player the Rossoneri really like, but they are not alone.

The Theo situation is certainly a confusing one. Whilst he is heavily admired and believed to be one of the best in the business, this season he has fallen below that level slightly. Already he has been entwined in controversies, and off the pitch, things aren’t much better.

There is confidence from Milan and Hernandez that a new contract will arrive, with both sides wanting to continue together. However, confidence means nothing without credible actions, and right now, there are none.

For this reason, it makes sense for the Rossoneri to step up their search for a deputy/replacement, with the club’s time running out. The Frenchman’s contract does not expire until 2026, but if a new contract does not arrive shortly, he will surely be sold for maximum value.

Maxim De Cuyper emerged as an early option, and this morning, reports suggested that Miguel Gutierrez is back on the list. Alongside that duo is Dorgu, the Lecce star. At 20 years old, he is one of the hottest prospects in Serie A, and Milan have watched him extensively, but no negotiations have begun with his current club yet, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Rossoneri will be challenged by Napoli for his signature, with Antonio Conte taking a keen interest, but no actions have been made yet.

  1. “There is confidence from Milan and Hernandez that a new contract will arrive”

With no negotiations at all it will be “challenging” to get his signature though. But I’m sure Zlatan and the bankers know what they’re doing, right…? 😀

  2. Suddenly he’s a replacement. Not surprised.

But it won’t be Dorgu, he’s already out of our spending scheme limit. And he has Serie A experience so double no.

    1. I think the implication would be that the squad is ready to move on from leao and I don’t think Theo would like that so it’s more likely they would move both. Hopefully leaving a decent amount of cash to spend .

      1. You’d think Theo would prefer playing behind a player who participates in defensive work as well so he shouldn’t have to work for two. That would allow him to push forward even more too.

  3. I’d rather develop talent than buy it. Sign U23 players and have them play in Milan’s second team for a few years. For players like Dorgu, it’s better to buy them when they’re 24 and ready for the first team.
