Zachary Athekame has been among the most interesting talents in Europe so far this season and AC Milan will be largely delighted, but there’s a downside to this.
Signed last summer as an option for the future, Athekame showed his capability on a few occasions, but Massimiliano Allegri preferred Alexis Saelemaekers. This summer, Ruben Amorim wanted him to have a proper chance to develop and he’s done more than that so far.

Athekame enchanting
Although Athekame is flying with Lyon, enchanting even as MilanVibes writes, it should not be seen as a regret. At San Siro, it’s unlikely that he’d have had as many minutes so far this season, so he may not have been able to explode in such a fashion.
The loan already looks like a success, then, and it’s offered him some guarantees. In fact, the report writes that the club have already started to reflect on his future – even with a majority of the season left to play.
With the visibility gained in France, there is the possibility that Athekame starts to attract serious attention from the Premier League, perhaps even in January if performances continue at this level.
So, the dilemma would be whether to sell him or invest in Athekame themselves. After all, it was only supposed to help him develop as a player, not bring them a question of what to do with his future…

He can be good for Lyon and be bad for us. That’s how football works lol. He was always young and never got enough playing time. Happy he is making the most of his opportunity. That’s the best scenario in these loan deals.

The loan is good for him, while everyone is still figuring out where exactly they fit in. He’s a single position player, so when he returns he can slot right in on the right, most of our players are multi positional utility players like Rabiot for example, where as Athekame has no doubts about where he will slot in.
We well know they will sell him in a heartbeat. Profits above anything else.
Stop making things up and learn to count. They posted modest profits for two years, then losses.
This can be a Gabbia situation where he returns to us. Don’t let him go.
