CorSera: Milan are chasing four players to follow up Origi’s arrival

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are working on deals for four more players after they secured an agreement with Liverpool forward Divock Origi, a report claims.

As has been reported by Corriere della Sera (via Milan News) today, Milan are happy to have secured an agreement with Origi even if the deal has not been made official yet.

Given the takeover of the club was officially announced Wednesday morning, focus can turn more readily now towards their other transfer dealings over the summer.

There are four players in particular that the Rossoneri would like to give to Stefano Pioli to arm him for the defence of the Serie A title next season.

Two of them play for French side Lille and they are centre back Sven Botman and midfielder Renato Sanches.

There is also Charles De Ketelaere at Club Brugge who is of interest as well as Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca. It is unclear whether signing one of the two forwards on that list may end the interest in the other.

  1. Leave this Scamacca shit for Inter. We don’t need him. We are covered in the attack department. Ibra most likely will continue to play. Sign quality right winger.

  2. IMO no chance Milan spends much on a striker this summer. They will roll with Origi and Giroud plus another either a veteran or a young striker , who would be OK with being the 3rd choice until Zlatan comes back.
And if they do get De Ketelaere , they are going to play him in different roles including as a false 9, so that by default excludes Scamacca

  3. We need to add someone else who can help the attack — whether it’s a pure striker or a very attack minded player like Dybala (who could play CAM or RW), we need more help scoring goals. Ibra recovery is 7-8 months so soonest he’ll be back is 2023 some time and Giroud is getting old. I love the Origi signing; but we need more goals. Leao and Origi can’t do it all.

I would be OK going after Belotti instead of Scamacca; but I’m most in favor of adding players who can be a real threat scoring or being creative and getting assists from the RW or CAM positions.

  4. The four players we should be targeting after the Origi deal are:

    Renato Sanches
Joao Felix : on a loan deal
    Domenico Berardi
    Paulo Dybala

  5. Milanito, I would be OK with any of those 4; looks like Sanches is already pretty far along in discussions and Maldini/Massara obviously like him a lot.

Of the other 3, I’d prefer Dybala the most and then Joao and then Berardi last; but any of them would be a big boost to our scoring threat which is what we need.

I’d also add Asensio to that list — he is still pretty young and he worked hard to overcome his injury issues and I believe he has a lot of potential to be great.

    1. Yeah, Sanches is definitely a target that M&M are gunning for and that should give us a glimpse into minds of what they see as the next evolution of the Milan midfield going into the new season.

I’ve got this gut feeling that Maldini is going to get nostalgic and recreate something similar to the Gre-No-Li or Dutch trio era. That’s one of the reason why I mentioned Joao Felix, with him and Sanches, Milan can have a Portuguese trio that could possibly be devastating. Felix is a realistic and practical option for a loan deal due to his reduced minutes.

I mentioned Berardi mainly because I think there will be a strong desire to bring In some more Italians into the team over a period of time. He’s definitely not a player that I would prefer but he brings guarantees at the league level, which would go a long way in helping us retain the championship. For me, I think it’s either him or Zaniolo,(who I prefer) that management will be thinking about acquiring this summer, but I think that Berardi would be the more logical fit especially when it comes to the locker room chemistry. The possibility that Milan might also go for Charles De Ketelaere makes a deal for Zaniolo less likely.

Dybala would be the perfect statement signing for a scudetto repeat. He’s free and with Zlatan definitely getting a reduced contract, and new owners as well, management should be able to offer him an attractive two year deal.

Asensio is twenty six now and would be a good option on the right. Maldini has a great relationship with Real Madrid, so Asensio could possibly be a realistic target for management. I think his contract runs out next year, so he could probably go at a good price too.

  6. As others have observed, it’s unlikely that the club will bring in another striker after Origi, as it will be Origi/Giroud/Lazetic (or Colombo for the CL list) until Ibra comes back and then Lazetic/Colombo probably goes on loan. Sanches can play AMC, and there is Adli too. So by default I think any big money spent in attack will be on RW as this is also our most shallow position. Botman is not needed. Use that money to sign a top class RW. Also make Florenzi permanent and spend ~10m on a better backup for Theo.
