Milan Futuro midfielder announces heartbreaking retirement: “I lost the desire”

Seeing young players retire early is always upsetting, and Milan Futuro have said goodbye to one talent this week.

Players retiring before their career properly begins is always a tough one to see. For many of these talents, their entire lives have been spent on the football pitch, hoping to achieve the chance of playing senior football.

The mental effects, then, of retiring early is something else in itself, and now Vincenzo Perrucci has made the decision to hang up his boots, despite only being 20-years-old.

In a statement on his Instagram, he announced the decision, which had largely been dictated by his history of suffering from injuries, via MilanPress.

“Finding the words to describe this moment isn’t easy. I joined Milan when I was 5 years old: I was a small, carefree child with a dream in my heart.

“Making the decision to stop, for the time being, was difficult, but this decision was driven by numerous knee injuries that no longer allowed me to do what I loved. Even when I managed to complete a full week of training and matches, afterward I would stop for weeks or even months.

“I had lost the desire and serenity to work because I was never able to feel physically well, which also significantly impacted my daily routine. I thank those who always supported me in moments of joy, but especially those who stood by me in the most difficult moments.

“I will always support the team that raised me from an early age and shaped me as a man. Forza Milan.”

The midfielder had only played 123 minutes this season across five appearances, before injuries once again stopped any chances of him gaining momentum. A heartbreaking side-effect of chasing a footballing dream.

All the best in whatever the future brings, Vincenzo!
