Adriano Galliani is expected to return to AC Milan for a second spell at the club, and it should all be confirmed next month.
In today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, Franco Ordine writes about Galliani’s return to Milan. The timing and events suggest the agreement will begin in September, when Monza pass from the hands of Fininvest to the American fund Beckett Layne Ventures.

The prospective new owners are already working on a new management for Monza. They wish to hire Mauro Baldissoni as CEO and Nicolas Burdisso as sporting director, so Galliani would be free to leave.
Galliani-Milan: Part Two
After signing those documents (he has a responsibility to oversee the sale, as a representative of Fininvest), Galliani will be a professionally free man and will be able to rejoin Milan, the club with which – alongside Silvio Berlusconi – he would 29 trophies in 31 years.
A preliminary agreement was reached with Gerry Cardinale during a meeting on the French Riviera. Il Condor has received important endorsements including from the CEO Giorgio Furlani, who ‘has always been fascinated by Galliani’. RedBird’s senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic has given his approval too, given the bond they have.
The role will be clear and defined: Head of Football. This position will not conflict with that of president Paolo Scaroni, who will retain responsibility for representation duties as well as the difficult dossier of the new stadium.
Even during the Silvio Berlusconi era, Galliani had made it clear he did not want the role of president, even when the former Milan owner was suspended for a conflict of interest. On that occasion, Galliani symbolically left the position free, as he believed there was only one person worthy of the role.
International esteem
In Galliani, Milan has found a figure who enjoys enormous international esteem, as demonstrated and confirmed by two recent events.
In mid-June, he was invited to Madrid by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to be the sponsor at the graduation ceremony of the Escuela Universitaria Real Madrid for the 2024-25 academic year.
In mid-July, he was the only Italian official invited by FIFA to New York to celebrate the closing of the Club World Cup. For the occasion, he had two notable companions: Andriy Shevchenko and Carlo Ancelotti.
Among the many criticisms levelled at the American Milan is the loss of political authority in the Serie A League, the Italian Football Federation, and even in the refereeing world. In recent years, the balance of power has shifted towards the city rivals due to the enormous influence of Giuseppe Marotta.
Galliani’s return would also cement the sporting management team: his love for Max Allegri – whom he once brought from Cagliari to Milan – is certainly not a mystery. Over the years, they have always remained in close contact, as well as enjoying an excellent relationship.
Ordine concludes with an exchange of words, with a ‘little bird’ at Milan. He asked them: “Do you think, with Galliani in the Lega Calcio, would last season’s Bologna-Milan match have been postponed?” The answer was: ” Probably not.”
I’ve noticed people often reference the “banter era” when talking about Galliani and Berlusconi and not the fact that the club won 29 out of its 50 trophies during those 2. Besides Perez and Gill by far the most successful management in history of football

With the money Milan had, buying the best players in the world, and winning trophies isn’t news.
Man City spent big and have won almost 30 trophies since the Abu Dhabi group took over, but their dismal performance last season was headline throughout the season. Does that mean people had forgotten the trophies? Of course not.
Milan won 29 trophies in 31 years of Berlusconi and his reign was a resounding success.
But at Madrid, the Galacticos won 7 trophies in 6 years and are considered a failure.
Leicester City won the EPL and it was great news, but Liverpool just won the league and it is normal news.
It is only normal to keep conversations in context and not exaggerate things.
We won the Scudetto under Redbird when the whole world knew that teams like Inter had a far more superior team than ours, and it was global news.
Everyday, people blame the Americans in here (even though of course they deserve to blamed, maybe a little too harsh) without acknowledging that for eleven years only Redbird gave us a Scudetto bragging right, and they have only been here for three years.
So when a set of fans remember only the trophies of Berlusconi without his challenging periods, and another set of fans try to create a balance, it kinda evens out.
After all, without challenges, Berlusconi wouldn’t have needed to sell the club in the first place.
The banter era is an integral part of the Berlusconi era, and is a direct reference point for any ownership to take over that era. The glory era was birthed by and ended with Berlusconi. The banter era was birthed by the Berlusconi era and the traits lives on.
If we love the club, we should be good students of history. Had Berlusconi sold to a wealthy buyer instead of the Chinese debtor, the traits of the banter era may have been eroded by now.
We need to live in the present, it is better than living in a past we may never relive.
While the former years of Berlusconi gives us a solid “goodwill” and history, the later years with Milan didn’t leave much to desire as Milan President.

People have scoffed at his age but that’s irrelevant. The way Calcio operates might be ‘changing’ but it hasn’t ‘changed’ yet. He still know’s it’s nooks and crannies better than anyone. And equally as important, the current lot will learn more than they could dream of from him, and then when the time comes that he can no longer do the job (but lets face it he’ll probably die working), he’ll know exactly who should replace him.
More than any player this is a big step in the right direction.
The only concern I have is: will Galliani have the freedom he had with Berlusconi?
He is not puppet anyone can talk down on or throw in his wallet.

Let’s face it, nobody really cares about Milan. These guys only see great opportunities for themselves, wrapped in stock and financial rewards, and they know when they have to sht up. At least Galliani would really help, unlike Scaroni or Zlatan who are criminally useless.
The only two guys who wouldn’t compromise are Boban and Maldini and we know what happened to both of them.
