GdS: Milan star Giroud in line to start first France game at Qatar World Cup

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan forward Olivier Giroud could be in line to start the first France game of the 2022 Qatar World Cup as Karim Benzema is yet to recover from injury, a report claims.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Benzema is at risk of missing at least the first group game at the World Cup against Australia as he is not yet fit and may be saved for later games.

Despite the quality of Giroud, he was never expected to start ahead of the Real Madrid man in Qatar but France coach Didier Deschamps could be left with no choice for at least the match with Australia.

The fact that Giroud is in superb form and is sharp will also help his case so there is the potential for both Giroud and Theo Hernandez to be on the pitch representing Milan against Australia.

He may be on the bench though in favour of his brother, Lucas Hernandez.
