Milan hoping to reverse worrying trend against English sides in Spurs game

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan face Tottenham tonight in the first leg of their round of 16 clash in the Champions League at San Siro tonight, hoping to get a result that goes against the grain.

As MilanNews highlights, Milan’s record against English teams in recent years is not very favourable as the last victory dates back to February 2012 against Arsenal, again in the round of 16 of the Champions League, when Milan won 4-0 at home.

Since then the Rossoneri have been beaten by Manchester United in the Europa League (2-1 on aggregate), lost both group stage games in the Champions League against Liverpool last season (3-2 and 1-2) and this season lost twice against Chelsea in the groups (3-0 and 0-2).

More generally against Premier League teams, the record is negative. It will be match number 46 against an English side, with Milan so far amassing 12 wins, 13 draws and 20 defeats in that run. More specifically against Spurs, Milan have failed to win in four previous games.
